Daniel and Johnny to overcome in the series.

As an international competition, the Sekai Taikai is bigger than anything that any of these characters have experienced so far, thus making it the ideal story for Cobra Kai's final arc. Whether it happens in season 6 or not, it's surely going to be the forefront of the characters' minds when the series returns. It's true that they only entered it to keep in pace with Terry Silver, but his downfall doesn't change the fact that they secured the right to participate in a tournament that will encom dojos from all over the world. It's hard to imagine Johnny, Daniel, and Chozen allowing this opportunity to them by.

Cobra Kai Already Confirmed The Sekai Taikai Is Another Karate Tournament

The Sekai Taikai promises to be a massive event for the series, but one specific detail in season 5 puts an unfortunate limit on its potential. When the show was in the process of laying out exactly what the Sekai Tekai was, it was established by Terry Silver that the event is a world "karate" tournament. Part of what's so interesting about an international competition is this idea that Johnny and Daniel's dojo can encounter schools from various corners of the world, all with their own styles. Had the Sekai Taikai been labeled more broadly, perhaps as a "martial arts" tournament, Cobra Kai could have made the most of the show going global.

By defining the Sekai Taikai as a tournament that allows for schools associated with other martial arts disciplines to participate, Cobra Kai would have opened the door for all sorts of new obstacles. They'd have to test their karate against moves and styles many of them have never seen in action before. Pitting characters like Robby, Sam, Tory, and Miguel against fighters trained in kung fu, hapkido, or taekwondo could have resulted in some interesting fight scenes. Instead, they'll just be going against more karate fighters. They can still encounter unfamiliar techniques, of course, but the range of what they could face can't be as great as it would be if it wasn't a karate-only competition.

Winning would have been considerably more difficult if it was a martial arts tournament, but even though that's not the case, the Sekai Taikai will not be anything close to a cakewalk for Johnny and Daniel's students. As a world tournament, it's participants are going to be a whole other level compared to what they've dealt with in the All-Valley, which is strictly a local competition. Advancing all the way to the international stage means stronger and more skilled opponents. That being said, the series did say that it's a rather exclusive event that many people don't even know about. In other words, it may not so huge that taking home the championship trophy is a lofty and unrealistic goal.
