Although the end of Cobra Kai season 6, Mr. Miyagi's Sekai Taikai backstory remains unresolved.
During a Q&A session with viewers on X, one asked Schlossberg why the final season didn't provide additional context about Mr. Miyagi killing his opponent at the world tournament. The co-creator responded that Daniel didn't need to know the full details of the incident since he acknowledged that his sensei was not perfect and would still think about his good deeds. Read his comment below:
What This Unresolved Story For Mr. Miyagi Means For The Karate Kid Franchise
Either Karate Kid: Legends Or A Mr. Miyagi Prequel Could Provide Some Context
It makes sense why Daniel desperately wanted answers since his beliefs about his sensei were challenged by this deep, dark secret. Since Mr. Miyagi died long before Cobra Kai's premiere, Daniel's chance of finding any answers would involve finding any living person who could share the . Unfortunately, his desperate search landed him in trouble when Terry Silver's henchmen abducted him as the tournament took place in Barcelona. However, this was perhaps a wake-up call for Daniel that such shame could hurt him in the long run.

Mr. Miyagi's Scene In Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 3 Explained & How It Was Done
Cobra Kai season 6, part 3, once again brought Mr. Miyagi back for a posthumous lesson with Daniel LaRusso, but how did the series pull this off?
Daniel's dream sequence finally made him realize to adapt and let go, as a vision of Mr. Miyagi says, "There's no need to fight anymore." This lesson became essential for Daniel to find peace, realizing that he couldn't always uphold the Miyagi-do way and that he simply needed to be a better teacher. This realization became a crucial character growth, where he finally respected Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Cobra Kai's fighting style, albeit with some philosophical tweaks. This also meant finding a balance between Miyagi-do and Cobra Kai, as he and Johnny shared their students to learn different teachings.
It's quite possible that Mr. Miyagi's past at the Sekai Taikai could be addressed in the movie Karate Kid: Legends.
Although the series itself has ended, that doesn't necessarily mean that the Sekai Taikai mystery remains a cold case. It's quite possible that Mr. Miyagi's past could be addressed in the movie Karate Kid: Legends. Jackie Chan's Mr. Han is seemingly connected to Mr. Miyagi's family, and the trailer has already established him making with Daniel. Thus, he may have the answers to what happened at the Sekai Taikai. If not, a potential Mr. Miyagi prequel series could be the next bet since the creators have already expressed interest in making one.
Our Take On The Unresolved Sekai Taikai Backstory
Hopefully, We Will Get Answers Soon
I applaud the Cobra Kai creators for taking such a risk with Mr. Miyagi's backstory because it shows that even a teacher has no perfect past. While it's unfortunate that he never addressed his dark history, it still allowed Daniel to grow by the series finale and build that mutual respect with Johnny. Although it remains unsolved, I think this only opens the door to exploring more about Mr. Miyagi and his early days, decades before meeting his sole student in Reseda. Whether this gets tackled in the new Karate Kid movie or a prequel series, I just hope we get to see more of this world and learn a bit more about Mr. Miyagi's origins.
