In an interview with Screen Rant at the Saturn Awards, Mancini talks about his plans for a potential Chucky in Space. When asked about the prospect of Chucky venturing beyond the Earthly atmosphere, Mancini pointed out that “everyone’s asking [him] that question.” In response, Mancini said that “if there’s enough demand for that,” he may just be able to conjure something up. Everyone’s asking me that question! So, MY question is, “Do you want him to go to space?” Do you personally want him to go? If there’s enough of a demand for that, eventually - I don’t know how quickly - I have an idea for that.
Why Chucky in Space is a Good Idea
As Mancini references in his quote, this is not the first time that the prospect of a Chucky film in space has come up. In 2021, Mancini posed the idea of Chucky going to outer space as the next move for the franchise. At the time, the creator argued that “he could probably go anywhere,” as the villain “operates successfully in all kinds of different tones and sub genres.”
Mancini is right regarding Chucky’s navigation of different sub genres. Though the character exists in the horror space, the character is tonally pliant in that his films consistently border on camp and comedic moments. Such is the tendency of mascot horror, which refers to genre films that turn childhood iconography into sadistic killers. Chucky going to space, though bizarre, could be a campy and welcome twist on the Child’s Play franchise.

Exactly how a Chucky in Space franchise entry would manifest remains to be seen. While the Child’s Play IP is far from finished producing content, the most recent entry into the franchise is the Chucky TV series. Chucky season 3 aired four episodes in 2023 and will continue its season in 2024. Based on its current trajectory, it seems Chucky will not likely go to space in Chucky the show, but one never knows as Mancini seems so open to meeting audience demand.
