The Odyssey shifts away from many of Christopher Nolan's usual genres, with Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer all rooted in science-fiction or in telling the stories of events and people from the 20th century. Mythical action is not a genre that Nolan has tackled yet. While it is a historical epic, Gladiator II being Nolan's favorite movie of 2024 makes more sense now that his next movie is confirmed to be reminiscent of the long-awaited sequel's genre.
