Chris Hemsworth wants Thor's next appearance to be his last, the actor revealed in an interview with Thor: Love and Thunder he feels like now is a good time to end it. He does say in his comments that nothing is set in stone, so the future of Thor is still up in the air.

Chris Hemsworth is the only solo character to get four movies in the MCU, with the the next appearance of Thor could send him off with a hero's death. Hemsworth has been playing this character for a long time, so it makes sense that he would look to leave the MCU while he's still enjoying it, but it does mean that whatever film he shows up in next will have greater importance.

The Most Likely Options For Chris Hemsworth's Final Movie As Thor

Kang Thor MCU

At this stage, with what's been announced, there are only three films that would make sense to be the send-off for Chris Hemsworth and Thor. The two most obvious options would be Captain America and Iron Man's lead. Avengers movies have the highest stakes of any MCU movie, so it would be fitting for Thor to go out on the biggest stage possible.

If Hemsworth sticks by the next film being his last appearance, then whichever one out of Avenger 5 or Avengers 6 Thor is in has big ramifications for the other one. If he turns up in Avengers 5 then something big must happen to Thor for him not to return, but if it's Avengers 6 then the previous film will have to build up to his appearance. Having two movies releasing relatively close to each other like these might mean that Hemsworth and Marvel see both films as one story meaning he could appear in both as his MCU swansong.

As things stand, the only other option for Thor's final appearance is Thor 5. While not announced, Thor 5 would make sense for Hemsworth to bow out after where Love and Thunder's ending left the character. The film leaves Thor in a much better place than most of the other films, so carrying that on in a sequel could work better as the ending for the character than the potentially bleaker Avengers film.

Why Thor 5 Should Be Chris Hemsworth's Last MCU Movie

There are arguments for why all three films should be Chris Hemsworth's last MCU movie. Kang Dynasty would be a major setup for Secret Wars; appearing in Secret Wars could potentially have more impact as it is basically the equivalent of Endgame. But Thor 5 would make his exit unique as it is part of his own franchise, making it different from Avengers: Infinity War, but that's not to say other characters couldn't show up in ing roles to make Thor 5 a proper send-off.

Having Thor 5 be Chris Hemsworth's final MCU movie would allow characters from previous Thor movies to appear while giving them time to breathe. Tom Hiddleston's Loki or Idris Elba's Heimdall could appear in a more meaningful way than a quick appearance in an Avengers film. Whatever the case, as he's one of the longest-serving characters still around, Hemsworth's exit deserves to be big and mighty.
