The Netflix series Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina is set in the haunting town of Greendale, in the same universe as Riverdale. Sabrina Spellman is a young half-witch, half-mortal who finds the weight of both realms resting on her shoulders.
Her mortal friends - Harvey, Roz, and Theo - keep her grounded and tied to reality. She always returns to Baxter High when she needs a safe space. But she also has friends in the coven. Her aunts and cousin Sabrina in most of her decisions, while the witches and warlocks of the Academy eventually come round and accept her. Here's how the friendships in the series compare.
BEST: Harvey, Roz & Theo
These three friends are practically inseparable. They always have each others' best interests in mind, and never fail to show up for one another. However, sometimes they seem to benefit from Sabrina's absence.
Understandably, these three struggle to trust Sabrina and find themselves happier when she's not around. However, they also don't realize how much Sabrina does for them. In any case, Roz, Harvey, and Theo are an iconic trio who are true friends despite their many differences.
TOXIC: Zelda & Hilda
The relationship between these two sisters is complicated; they clearly love each other and couldn't live without one another, but they also don't appreciate each other.
For starters, Zelda has been known to murder Hilda whenever she annoys her, not to mention the decades of bullying and putting down. Hilda often fears speaking out to her own sister, and when she does, Zelda is deeply affected.
BEST: Sabrina & Hilda
Hilda is just the nurturing kind of love Sabrina needs in the cold Spellman Sisters Mortuary that she calls home. She's the kinder, more comionate, and understanding of the two aunts, and she actually listens to Sabrina and tries to help her.
Though nothing could make up for the loss of her parents, Hilda is as close to a maternal figure as Sabrina has. In contrast to Zelda's cold harshness, Hilda is the safe space Sabrina needs in her life.
TOXIC: Sabrina & The Weird Sisters
Sabrina's first encounters - and even those later in the series - with the Weird Sisters are not pleasant. The first time viewers see them onscreen, the Sisters curse Sabrina to scare her away from the Academy of Unseen Arts.
They continue making life hard for Sabrina, bullying her, and playing nasty tricks on her at the Academy, but Sabrina realizes she could use their abilities. They team up on several occasions, but this never leads to real friendship. The Sisters end up trying to put her down later, even though they owe their lives to her.
BEST: Ambrose & Sabrina
Ambrose is another person Sabrina often turns to for comfort. He's always there - literally, because he's been on house arrest for decades. Ambrose's wry humor and sarcasm lighten up the mortuary and help Sabrina feel more at home.
He's also willing to accompany her on adventures, like traveling through time to rescue everyone they love from painful deaths, or helping Sabrina with the Mandrake Spell, or keeping her royalty a secret from Zelda and Hilda.
TOXIC: The Weird Sisters
Just like Sabrina's relationship with the Sisters, these three manage to cooperate solely because of the transactional nature of their relationship. They don't love one another, but they need each other.
Though they express sadness when one of them is hurt or killed, they quickly get over it. Besides, Prudence has always marked herself as superior to Agatha and Dorcas. Most importantly, they exist to torture other people and exult in others' suffering. Their friendship doesn't serve anyone well.
BEST: Wardwell & Sabrina
Before Ms. Wardwell becomes Madam Satan, she is one of Sabrina's favorite teachers, and Sabrina seems to be one of her favorite students. In the opening scene, she even asks Wardwell to accompany her and her friends to the diner.
Even as Madam Satan, she actually proves to be a faithful friend to Sabrina. Sure, they don't get off to a great start, but over time, Lilith sees Sabrina's merits. She's instrumental in starting WICCA and later helps Sabrina navigate her duties as the Queen of Hell while protecting her from the evils of the underworld, as well as its patriarchy.
TOXIC: Nick & Lucifer
This isn't exactly a friendship, but it's easily one of the most toxic relationships in the series. Lucifer literally takes up residence in Nick's brain and uses his body to get to Sabrina and the other of the coven.
The experience leaves Nick traumatized, while Lucifer is more powerful than ever. Nick even breaks up with Sabrina because of how much it affected him.
BEST: Sabrina & Roz
Sabrina's best friend is Roz, and though they go through a few rough patches, they always come back stronger than ever. Roz is one of the first people to accept Sabrina's witchiness, even though she's also one of the first to mistrust her.
After their reconciliation, Sabrina proves her loyalty to Roz on several occasions. Most notably, when faced with an easy solution to her monumental problems, Sabrina opts not to kiss Harvey even though it could fix everything, because she values her friendship with both of them too much.
TOXIC: Sabrina & Susie
The toxicity of this relationship is mostly Sabrina's fault. In fact, it's a problem in most of her friendships, but particularly when it comes to Susie, as Theo is known in season 1. Sabrina views Susie as a victim, someone she can save, and decides to take ownership of the struggles she faces without really understanding how Susie feels.
Sabrina takes it upon herself to take down Susie's bullies, approach the principal, and defend Susie every chance she gets - but Sabrina never asks for permission. Even after other characters have asked Sabrina to stop messing with their lives (especially if it involves using witchcraft), Sabrina returns to Baxter High and helps Theo get on the basketball team.
