After the reveal that Hannah Asher is pregnant going into the NBC’s top-rated drama Chicago Med isn’t setting out to break that trend. But Asher’s pregnancy complicates her own relationships quite a bit.
Hannah’s had a rough go at romance in Chicago Med season 10. Things with Ripley were already difficult before he lost Sully and fell into a drunken depression. Her friendship with Archer got a boost after that, and the timeline for Hannah’s pregnancy seems to line up with the episode in which she made Archer dinner. According to showrunner Allen MacDonald, fans are meant to question whether Asher’s pregnancy stems from a discreet relationship with her close friend Dean or her complicated relationship with Mitch. As MacDonald tells TVLine:
“I think the audience should definitely be questioning [who the father is]. The audience has no idea what happened off-camera. So when they say the timeline with Ripley doesn’t match up, and the timeline with Archer does, they don’t see everything [that] Hannah’s up to.
She’s going to have to tell a few people. She’s going to have to tell her sister, and she’s going to have to tell the baby’s father. So those are the things that are kind of hanging over her head as she goes into the season finale.
“I think she’s stunned and shocked, and she didn’t expect this result. Maggie says in [season 10, episode 20], ‘Hannah’s home sick, too. It’s not just the nurses.’ So we’ve been kind of setting it up. But I think even though she’s an OB-GYN she didn’t even imagine that that was what it was.”
What MacDonald’s Comments Mean For Asher In Chicago Med
Hannah May Not Know The Father’s Identity Herself
A number of viewers will care less about the paternity of Asher’s child and more about whether she chooses to pursue the father. Season 10 has been so jam-packed with problematic relationships, including Caitlin Lenox’s first Chicago Med romance ever, that a number of Asher fans just want to see her wind up with someone who can make her happy. To many, that means Dean Archer. However, Ripley’s been putting in the work to become a better person, and there seem to be lingering feelings between them despite both parties acting like they’ve moved on.

Chicago Med Season 10 Finale's Success May Be Jeopardized By 1 Character's Plot
One character’s role in the Chicago Med season 10 finale might draw an unfortunate amount of attention away from much more pressing storylines.
However, there’s an argument that Hannah and Mitch are too far gone to start over, while some other fans believe Asher and Archer’s Chicago Med romance would be just as dysfunctional as Asher and Ripley’s. Both of the most likely father candidates could be in fairly bad places to help Hannah raise a child right now. Ripley helping with Sully’s baby shows he’s good with children, but he might not have time to help with two. And Archer’s dealing with enough family issues right now that starting a new one would send his stress levels through the roof.
Our Take On Asher’s Pregnancy Twist In Chicago Med Season 10
This Could Create Drama Outside Of The Paternity Results
With all 3 One Chicago shows renewed for the 2025-2026 season, there’s no pressure on the Chicago Med season 10 finale to provide answers regarding the baby’s father, or even whether Asher plans to keep it. Either way, Lizzy now has to watch the sister who removed her uterus back out of surrogacy to complete her own pregnancy. Even if Lizzy s Hannah, she’s going to have feelings about that. Between Lizzy’s potential envy and the possibility of a jealous rivalry between Ripley and Archer, there’s a discomforting chance this one pregnancy will affect the bulk of Asher’s personal relationships.
