Chicago Fire helped launch the popular One Chicago franchise on NBC, and now, the firefighting procedural is renewed for season 14. Developed by TV maven Dick Wolf, Chicago Fire follows the brave men and women of the city's Firehouse 51, as they tackle the biggest disasters the Midwestern metropolis has to offer. Quickly spun off into its companion shows (Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med), Chicago Fire immediately proved to be another Dick Wolf success story on NBC, and it has enjoyed a nearly decade-and-a-half run thus far.

The show's landmark 13th season is rife with changes, and Chicago Fire is transitioning to a new era after the departure of Chief Wallace Boden (played by Eamonn Walker). Dermot Mulroney's Chief Dom Pascal has stepped into Boden's impossible-to-fill-shoes, but his leadership style chafes the Firehouse 51 crew right off the bat. This constant state of flux puts season 14 in a unique spot, but there are still plenty of things that could happen to inform the future of the popular procedural.

NBC picked up all three One Chicago programs for additional seasons during their shortened run in early 2024, and it's clear that the 2023 Hollywood strikes did little to dull the popularity of One Chicago. With that in mind, NBC waited until just before the season finale to renew Chicago Fire for season 14. New season of all three One Chicago series are on deck for the 2025 TV season.

The 2023 Hollywood strikes delayed Chicago Fire season 12, causing it to air between January and May 2024 for only 13 episodes.

Chicago Fire Season 14 Cast Details

The Firehouse 51 Crew Will Return

After the tumultuous changes within the cast of Chicago Fire between seasons 12 and 13, it was hoped that things could stay consistent going forward. However, two major cast are leaving following season 13, with Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) and Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) not returning for the prospective 14th season. On the other hand, many returns are expected, including newcomer Dermot Mulroney, who was tapped to lead the team as Chief Dom Pascal. Likewise, fan-favorite character Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) will also be on hand after making his surprise return to full-time action in season 12.

Jocelyn Hudon's paramedic Lyla Novak was upgraded to a recurring character in season 13 to fill the void left behind by the departing Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), and she'll likely stay as a part of the team. The same goes for the likes of David Eigenberg's Lt. Christopher Herrmann and Miranda Rae Mayo's Stella Kidd, who have continued to be a constant presence on the procedural.

Predicting story details for Chicago Fire season 14 is both difficult and easy, since the procedural elements have been consistent from year to year. As such, season 14 will see the crew of Firehouse 51 responding to various life-threatening emergencies while trying to balance their working selves with their personal lives. There are, however, numerous threads from Chicago Fire season 13 that will also lend themselves to storylines in season 14.

Though Jake Lockett and Daniel Kyri are confirmed to leave Chicago Fire after season 13, the season finale did not do anything specific to write their characters out of the show. Season 14 will have to address their reasons for leaving the series and potentially bring in new characters after their exits.

Herrmann also accepted a demotion so that Mouch could become the lieutenant. This change in professional status will likely have an influence on relationships in the series moving forward, and season 14 will certainly be examining those shifting dynamics.

There is also the question of Severide and Kidd becoming parents. Though the two tried to adopt, that fell through in season 13. The finale, however, did reveal that they're expecting a baby, so season 14 of Chicago Fire should see the two welcome their baby into the world, barring any tragedies for the characters. Just how expanding their family will affect their characters will be a thread in season 14.
