Big Brother season 27 has been officially announced, and new changes are coming to the CBS reality show. Big Brother has been a staple of CBS's summer programming since it first premiered in 2000. The social experiment has remained unique as it's the only reality show that allows fans to watch the houseguests 24/7 on live feeds.
The motto of Big Brother is "expect the unexpected," and season 27 is no different. While we don't yet know what twists and turns await the cast , or even who the cast will be, unexpected changes for the audience have already been announced. When does Big Brother season 27 premiere, and what can fans look forward to?
Big Brother Season 27 Premiere Date
The First Episode Will Air In July
The official Big Brother season 27 premiere date is July 10, 2025, at 8 p.m. EDT. The first episode will be 90 minutes, as will the second episode, which airs three days later. Last season, the cast reveal was split into two episodes. Night one, audiences met the first eight houseguests, but had to wait for the second episode to meet the rest. However, these episodes were each only an hour long. With 90-minute episodes kicking off season 27, it's possible we'll meet all sixteen houseguests on night one, although there's no word yet.
Big Brother Will Have 90-Minute Episodes
Will This Last All Season?
The 90-minute episodes won't end after the houseguests move into the Big Brother house. For the first time, viewers can expect consistent 90-minute episodes every Wednesday, running from 8 p.m. EDT to 9:30 p.m. EDT. After the initial two episodes, the Thursday and Sunday episodes will remain at one hour in length.
Big Brother didn't invent 90-minute episodes out of thin air. Other CBS social experiments like Survivor and The Amazing Race have been airing 90-minute episodes since 2023. However, Survivor and The Amazing Race typically only air one episode a week, unlike Big Brother's long-running three-a-week schedule. Longer episodes mean fans can get even more Big Brother content, especially if they don't watch the live feeds.
Although fans can watch the Big Brother live feeds whenever they want, the system isn't perfect.
The live feeds only show what's going on in the house in real time. Viewers still need to tune in to the episodes on CBS to see confessionals containing the cast's inner thoughts. Since there are no confessionals in the live feeds, it can be difficult to tell when someone is lying as part of their gameplay, or if the things they're saying are genuine. 90-minute episodes will allow more time for confessionals, giving viewers even more insight into the players' decisions.
Big Brother Is Getting An After-Show
Season 27 Will Have Expert Insight
At various points throughout its run, Big Brother has invited former players on the Thursday live shows to discuss the current season and give their thoughts as someone who's gone through what the houseguests are going through. While Big Brother host Julie Chen typically refrains from giving her personal opinion on air, former players are free to speak their minds. Starting with season 27, Big Brother alums will be sharing their thoughts on a brand-new show.
