Throughout the entirety of Chainsaw Man's ongoing Part Two, the threat of the Death Devil's arrival acted as an invisible hand pulling the strings of the narrative from behind a curtain. Every traumatic experience Denji and Asa had to endure, every devil that appeared or untimely death that occurred; all were orchestrated events in various schemes with the goal of better preparing the world for the Death Devil's arrival. Unfortunately, for Chainsaw Man's cast of characters, it seems she has finally descended.

Chapter #195 ended on a cliffhanger which saw the introduction of a new student in class, and upon turning the page, fans were met by a teary-eyed girl with those instantly recognizable spiral horseman eyes. The Chainsaw Man community was set ablaze with theories about who exactly this new horseman could be, until chapter #196, "Chainsaw Man to the Rescue!", made it clear the final sister of the apocalypse arrived. However, she was quite different from what just about anyone expected her to be.

Chainsaw Man's Death Devil Has Arrived, and She's Nothing Like Anyone Expected

The Long-Awaited Horseman Devil Has Finally Descended

Chainsaw Man's newest, mysterious devil introduced in Chapter #195.

It's long been established that the horseman sisters take on human forms, first shown in Makima's appearance, and later in Yoru, Fami, and Nayuta. The fact the Death Devil arrived as another teenage girl wasn't what surprised fans, but rather it was her demeanor no one saw coming. Each horseman has behaved somewhat similarly throughout Chainsaw Man. Control 1.0 was reserved but had an edge and an air of superiority about her, which was fitting given the concept attached to her name.

Devils in Chainsaw Man don’t just represent physical threats but also deep psychological fears.

Control 2.0 and War were both unruly and aggressive, yet again believing themselves to be superior. Famine remains stoic and hard to read, though willing to also show aggression when the situation calls for it. Death, however, while sharing the same superiority complex, lacks any edge and is constantly in tears, claiming she feels sorry for everyone. The most fearsome devil of them all is unexpectedly the only one to seemingly have any sort of empathy for humans, and that can have major implications going forward.

The Death Devil May Not Be the Big Bad Villain

Chainsaw Man Has Always Subverted Expectations

Chainsaw Man's usage of the Death Devil throughout Part Two is incredibly similar to the role the Gun Devil played during Part One. Both have been a far-off presence that didn't arrive until much later down the line. As readers know well, the Gun Devil wasn't the final antagonist of Part One, and it's possible the Death Devil won't be the main villain this time around either. Given her blubbering demeanor and empathy for humans, the final horseman may truly want to help.

If not the Death Devil, then who exactly is the final villain? It's possible fans have followed her throughout the entirety of Part Two. Yoru, the War Devil, is always scheming, and during just the last chapter Asa claimed she was planning something even worse than death to humanity. Chainsaw Man still has many questions that need answering, and now that all major pieces are in place, including the unexpectedly emotional Death Devil, the series can begin its approach towards the finale.
