Warning: Contains spoilers for Chainsaw Man chapter #198.Chainsaw Man has finally revealed the truth about its final villain, the Death Devil, but there’s a major twist to her that no one saw coming. The most recent arc saw the introduction of what most people assumed to be the Death Devil, and while her being a nervous wreck who can’t handle herself in a fight was far from what people expected, seeing her finally appear was nonetheless great.
Chainsaw Man chapter #198 had even more shocking reveals for the Death Devil, and it took things in a direction no one expected. The Death Devil rebuilt herself by absorbing the life force of ants, but before she could continue fighting the fake Chainsaw Man, a startling truth was revealed: the person people were led to believe was the Death Devil was actually the Famine Devil, and Fami was secretly the Death Devil the entire time. The twist completely changes how people should look at Fami, and there’s no telling how things will go from here.
Chainsaw Man’s Big Twist Makes Perfect Sense In Hindsight
Why Fami Was Always Chainsaw Man's Biggest Villain
As surprising as the twist of Fami being the Death Devil is, it makes complete sense in hindsight. While Fami has worked with Denji and Asa on occasion, everything she’s done since her introduction has been designed to make their lives worse, with her siccing the Eternity and Falling Devils on them, setting up the Chainsaw Man War with the Chainsaw Man Church, and especially her orchestrating Nayuta’s death. Fami secretly being the Death Devil perfectly justifies all of her previous acts of villainy in Chainsaw Man, and things are only going to ramp up from here.
Fami’s true identity also makes the Chainsaw Man War even worse in hindsight. The Chainsaw Man War was supposed to make Denji and Asa strong enough to defeat the Death Devil, but if Fami was the Death Devil the entire time, then Fami put the entire world in a state of chaos through the Chainsaw Man War either as an elaborate means of killing herself or to enact a hidden condition for ensuring Nostradumus’ prophecy comes to . Whatever the case, it shows that there’s far more to Fami than people thought, and overall, it’s great to see.
Chainsaw Man’s Big Twist Was Exactly What The Manga Needed Right Now
Why Chainsaw Man's New Twist Is So Exciting
Above all else, the big twist about the Death Devil’s identity is exactly what Chainsaw Man needed to help its story. While it’s not universal, many people have felt that Chainsaw Man has suffered a drop in quality in recent years, with many arcs feeling repetitive and anticlimactic, and Denji’s notable lack of growth has been an especially big point of contention. Even the alleged Death Devil did little more than add comedic relief, and overall, Chainsaw Man part 2, as good as it was, has definitely felt like it was going through a rut for a long time now.
All of that, of course, is why the twist of Fami being the Death Devil is so exciting. Not only does it justify the real Famine Devil being comedic relief, but it makes Fami come off as a mastermind just as devious as Makima, if not more so, and as such, Chainsaw Man having such an intimidating character as its final villain in Fami is the perfect chance for it to feel exciting again. Chainsaw Man has never been more exciting after its big twist, and whatever it does with it will undoubtedly be great to watch play out.
