MCU Captain America actor hung up the shield for good, and, at least as far as anyone knows, has no plans to reprise his role as Steve Rogers. While Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson has since assumed the mantle as the new Captain America, Evans has moved on to other projects. He's currently promoting his latest film, Lightyear, in which he voices the in-universe movie version of the Toy Story action figure, Buzz Lightyear.

Evans would be hard-pressed to shake off his identity as Captain America, however, having played the role to critical acclaim over the span of eight years. With each new film also came a new variation of Captain America's patriotic getup. After introducing a rugged, military-inspired uniform in The First Avenger, the Captain America suit has gone brighter, darker, and everything in between through the course of eight MCU movies.

However, Evans himself its that Captain America's costume isn't his favorite among the Avengers. In a video feature with LADbible TV, Evans sits down with Lightyear co-star and Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi to discuss "the internet's biggest debates" - among them, whether Captain America has the best suit of any superhero. Evans disagreed without hesitation, saying:

It's the suit for him, and it works for him, but if we're measuring against all the Avengers, let's be honest. It's not the best. S--t, they're all better than mine. Whether it's Scarlett [Johansson], whether it's Chris [Hemsworth], whether it's Tom Holland...

Evans' comments are both ironic and hilarious, but among the Avengers, Captain America has an outfit that can easily come across as campy. Granted, the character of Captain America is supposed to embody the essence of patriotism and idealistic moral principles, and like Evans says, it's a suit that works within that context. But, truthfully speaking, he's a walking, talking American flag.

Still, Marvel Studios' costume designers deserve props for the way they handled Captain America's suit throughout the film series. By choosing darker tones and adding touches like dirt stains and scratches on the shield, Captain America's look struck a balance between comic accuracy and the grounded reality of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Star-spangled outfit aside, Captain America's film series is arguably the most down-to-earth of any MCU character, taking on a more spy-thriller tone in contrast to the fantastical worlds frequented by Thor, Doctor Strange, and others. With a Captain America 4 movie in the works, now Mackie has the honor of donning the red, white and blue suit - this time with wings. Fans are surely eager to see how Sam Wilson's costume will evolve over time.
