  • With the 25th anniversary approaching, now would be the perfect time for Capcom to announce a return to the Dino Crisis series.

A new Dino Crisis seems more likely than ever following a recent Capcom survey. The Capcom Super Election, which runs until April 12th, includes questions about some of the company's dormant franchises, with players manually typing in their answers and selecting them from a drop-down menu, rather than choosing from pre-selected multiple-choice answers.

So far, over 200,000 people have participated in the survey, and it's clear they want Capcom to return to some of its dormant franchises and classic titles. Although the survey isn't over yet, the Capcom Town X shared a picture of the most selected answers, with larger ones representing the ones people chose the most. Dino Crisis is one of the biggest titles in the image, alongside franchises that have received more attention from Capcom over the years, such as Megaman, Ace Attorney, and Resident Evil, and it wasn't as large on the image, other classics such as Veronica were present, indicating demand for a remake of Resident Evil - Code: Veronica.

Now Would Be The Perfect Time For A Dino Crisis Resurgence

2024 Marks The 25th Anniversary Of Dino Crisis

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the original Dino Crisis, which would make it the perfect time for Capcom to announce a return to the series. The first Dino Crisis was released in 1999, and was instantly praised for its Resident Evil-esque survival horror gameplay - it was directed by Resident Evil's Shinji Mikami, after all - combined with a much darker and more violent take on dinosaurs than was present in other media such as the Jurassic Park movies at that time.

While its first sequel, Dino Crisis 2 was well received upon its release in 2000, despite moving more into the action genre, the franchise was shelved after the Xbox-exclusive Dino Crisis 3 was released to negative reviews and underperformed in 2003. With Capcom turning to its classic survival horror series, Resident Evil, and remaking its earlier titles in recent years to high acclaim, many have been vocal about wanting Dino Crisis to receive the same treatment, and this latest survey indicates that the fanbase shows no sign of stopping.

Upon Capcom's reveal of its live-service title Exoprimal in 2022, a character was shown who looked like Dino Crisis' protagonist, Regina, leading some fans to wonder if the title would feed into Dino Crisis in some way. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case upon its launch.

While the first Dino Crisis remains a classic, gaming technology has come a long way in the last 25 years, and so many younger gamers may be put off picking up the title due to how dated it now looks and plays with its tank controls. Dinosaur-based media never seems to cease being popular, with the rebooted Jurassic World series having a successful box office and other developers such as Jaw Drop Games, Great Ape Games, and Saber Interactive all having dinosaur survival horror titles on the horizon with Jurassic Park: Survival, respectively, marking a renaissance for the genre. With this in mind, along with the game's 25th anniversary, there's never been a better time for a Dino Crisis remake.
