The open beta and pre-order bonuses for first official teaser for the game released last week, though, its contents were minimalistic and offered little in the way of the game’s characters, setting, or plot.

After a span of rumors and leaks, the next Call of Duty was eventually Call of Duty: Warzone, the latter of which featured a teaser for the new Black Ops mid-game prior to the title’s official announcement. While a specific release date for Black Ops Cold War outside of sometime in 2020 has not been given, it cannot be too far away given 2020 only has four months remaining.

Capitalizing on the Black Ops Cold War hype, COD Tracker reports the game’s open beta and pre-order bonuses have been leaked. Allegedly, fans who pre-order the new Call of Duty will be given beta access before the open beta goes public. The beta will be available on PC via Activision-Blizzard’s Battle.net, and presumably on PS4 and Xbox One. Those who reserve Black Ops Cold War will also be granted pre-order bonuses in the form of cosmetic items depending on which edition of the game they purchase. Pre-orders will also provide cosmetic bonuses in Modern Warfare and Warzone. These items include:

  • Season 1 Battle Bundle
  • Confrontation Weapons Pack
  • Land, Sea and Air Pack
  • Woods Operator Pack in Modern Warfare and Warzone

Pre-order bonuses have become the norm amongst high-caliber titles. Bonus items are usually confined to cosmetics and don’t offer in-game advantages over other players when it comes to multiplayer content, though some pay-to-win MMORPGs and even first-person shooters have been known to cross that tragic line. However, Battlefront II changed its tune after enough backlash. If Black Ops Cold War’s pre-order bonuses remain cosmetic in nature so as not to give those who commit to it a leg up over the competition, Activision should be relatively safe from that dangerous idea.

However, the open beta could reveal many other problems, such as drastic bugs and imbalanced weapons that may or may not be fixed by the time the game releases. Despite the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4) the multiplayer is the most popular and, therefore, important aspect of the title. Cosmetic bonuses are great, but they can’t save a sinking ship if the captain’s asleep at the helm.
