Sad news has arrived for Modern Warfare 2 announcement.
Today, Activision Blizzard has officially unveiled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s debut trailer, which turned out to be a cinematic edit rather than a gameplay video. While familiar faces are returning to the game’s single-player campaign as part of the legendary Task Force 141 squad, it is barely enough to quench players’ thirst for some actual gameplay footage. To accompany the reveal, developers have also shared a bit of intel regarding the game. The most exciting piece of information is probably the anticipated return of the Call of Duty franchise back to Steam, starting with Modern Warfare 2.
According to the official announcement posted on the Warzone 2 will utilize the same updated technology that is used to power Modern Warfare 2, which makes it quite a challenging task to bring any potential content from the older Warzone to a new engine. The development of Warzone 2 is again being led by Infinity Ward, with Raven Software being a part of the process. The game will launch soon after Modern Warfare 2 premieres at the end of October.
Although Warzone 2’s official announcement is scarce for details, rumors are suggesting that the game might be in a more favorable position than its predecessor. According to industry insider Tom Henderson, a second map for Warzone 2 is in development, which means the battle royale game will have at least two levels for players to wreak havoc at launch. This way, the title will be able to avoid Warzone’s initial mistake, offering gamers slightly more diversity.
While Warzone 2’s reveal has left a bittersweet taste because of abandoned progress from the original battle royale game, it is worth mentioning that the next installment is still a new, separate project. In that regard, it’d be surprising if anything players have achieved so far in regular Warzone appears in the sequel. Most of the time, video games do not work this way, and it’s a completely normal phenomenon. A new installment creates a new challenge for gamers, which is excellent in of engagement. Additionally, newcomers would’ve been in a hugely unfair advantage compared to seasoned Warzone veterans if progress carried over from the original title.
