Activision has announced that with the Mercenaries of Fortune Season, Call of Duty: Warzone is finally getting a new map called Fortune’s Keep. This will offer players a third map to play on, although it is worth noting that the content will remain exclusive to the original Warzone, while the anticipated sequel, Warzone 2, will introduce its own unique experience.

As confirmed by Activision in the announcement of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the next battle royale won’t feature any similarities with the original Warzone. In other words, Warzone 2 won’t carry over content or progress players have made from the original game. Although a controversial move, Warzone's sequel will provide a fresh experience on a new console engine, which should differentiate it enough from the original title to warrant the switch-over. Additionally, it'll also serve as a fresh start for everyone, which won’t penalize newcomers in favor of seasoned Warzone veterans, one of the biggest barriers for new players approaching multiplayer games with lengthy lifespans.

Activision has officially unveiled Call of Duty: Warzone’s Season Four titled Mercenaries of Fortune, which introduces a brand new map to the battle royale game. Called Fortune’s Keep, the map was initially expected to replace Warzone's Alcatraz-inspired Rebirth Island map as the primary location for the Resurgence mode. However, it’s been confirmed that the two levels will coexist via weekly rotation. It’s a new map that’s been developed by High Moon Studios from scratch, offering players four distinct areas to fight over in Town, Smuggler’s Cove, Keep, and Winery. The key theme of Fortune’s Keep is Mediterranean architecture with terracotta rooftops and colorful buildings. The map features a carefully arranged layout with varying levels of verticality, multiple advantageous points, and a lot of cover opportunities.

With the anticipated addition of Fortune’s Keep, there will be three maps in Warzone for players to wreak havoc in. It hasn’t always been that way, as Warzone originally launched with just a single map, which was at one point its biggest weakness However, Warzone 2 is expected to avoid this mistake by offering fans at least two maps in a short period. That’s according to one of the recent leaks regarding the sequel. As revealed by insider Tom Henderson, the second map has already entered production, although it is yet unclear how soon it’ll become playable after Warzone 2 launches.

Considering Rebirth Island has already become quite a familiar map for Call of Duty: Warzone, players might be getting tired of playing the same small map over and over again. However, offering a brand new location should help relieve some fatigue from the Resurgence mode. Additionally, Fortune’s Keep features a different architectural approach, which brings much-needed diversity to CoD: Warzone's map design. Players will finally be able to enjoy the map with the start of Mercenaries of Fortune Season, which is scheduled to arrive in Call of Duty: Warzone on June 22.
