It's also clear that games like Destiny are going to be key to any successful strategy in the years to come. Both Microsoft and Sony are lacking a big live-service game in their portfolio, and publishers worldwide are trying to copy Bungie's homework and crib some of their success. If Microsoft acquires Destiny, it would be on par with its acquisition of Minecraft in of games portfolio impact.
For now, it seems like Destiny 2 will be staying put under an independent Bungie. While Xbox fans will no doubt be upset that they can't claim such a massive and successful game as an exclusive, Destiny has a history on PlayStation which could make an Xbox deal less than desirable in the first place. Of course, as with Microsoft and Minecraft, the Xbox team may not have minded if Bungie continued updates on PlayStation 5, even if they are desperate for an exclusive in the near future. The gaming industry is full of rumors, most of them are half-true, and many more will come out as the ramp to the next-generation continues.
