On Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Detective Jake Peralta has made a lot of great friends. Many of them have been fellow cops but some of them have actually been criminals, like Doug "Pontiac Bandit" Judy. But Jake has made more than his fair share of enemies, too.
When he was dating Sophia Perez, Jake ran afoul of Geoffrey Hoytsman, her boss and a lunatic with a cocaine problem. Fire Marshal Boone was none of those things but the rivalry between cops and firefighters is apparently a big deal in their world. Regardless, both Hoytsman and Boone were terrible in their own special ways.
FIRE MARSHAL BOONE: A Poor Loser
While it only comes up once on the show, there's apparently a regular football game between the Nine-Nine and the firefighters. The Nine-Nine appeared to have one play, which was ing the ball to Terry Jeffords.
Being that Terry is built like a living tree made from marble and played college ball, he pretty much scored every time. Rather than figuring out how to deal with Jeffords, Boone just whined about it.
GEOFFREY HOYTSMAN: Not A Great Boss
After Jake Peralta and Sophia had been dating for a while, she noticed that she wasn't getting any great cases as a lawyer. She found out the reason was her boss, Geoffrey Hoytsman, had stopped giving them to her because she was dating a cop.
By all s, Sophia was a good lawyer and he was willing to bench her because of her boyfriend's profession. That's a terrible management decision, though not his worst decision.
FIRE MARSHAL BOONE: Assumed Sal Committed Arson
According to Jake, Sal's was the best pizza t in Brooklyn. Charles Boyle disagreed as he put it in eighth place in his weekly email blast, which was a thing that he did for some reason.
The only verified reader was Captain Holt. When Sal's burned down, Boone immediately assumed that Sal had committed arson despite having no evidence to his theory. Jake had to work hard to change his mind.
GEOFFREY HOYTSMAN: Happily Addicted To Cocaine
When Jake decided to try and win Hoytsman over, he dragged Terry to an event many lawyers would be at, including Geoffrey. First, Jake studied up on Hoytsman so that he could learn about his favorite hobbies.
Jake should have called in Amy Santiago for help as he dropped the ball, screwing most of the research up. His biggest miss was not learning about Geoffrey's favorite time, doing large amounts of cocaine in the bathroom.
FIRE MARSHAL BOONE: Tried to Keep Jake Off The Case
Sal called Jake in for help when he realized that Boone was looking at him as the main suspect. Jake wanted to help out but Boone would not let him on the case. This was, in part, due to the fact that it was the fire department's jurisdiction.
But Jake knew how bad an investigator Boone was and wanted to get in on it. Naturally, the end result of Jake and Charles sneaking around was a street brawl with the fire department.
GEOFFREY HOYTSMAN: Cheated On His Wife
When Jake busted Hoytsman for doing cocaine in the bathroom at the party, Geoffrey's life began to unravel. All of his secrets were laid bare, including the fact that he had cheated on his wife with their housekeeper.
Even worse, he had children with both women. As if cheating wasn't bad enough, he had an entire secret family with another woman. Neither woman wanted him, though he may have had the housekeeper deported, too.
FIRE MARSHAL BOONE: Took Credit For The Bust
Ultimately, Boone and Peralta put their differences aside, agreeing to work the case together. Boone finally itted that he was stumped when he handed the evidence he collected over to Jake for review.
Peralta worked out the solution, and the team confronted the actually perpetrator. But at the last second. Boone jumped in and completed the arrest, taking the glory for himself.
GEOFFREY HOYTSMAN: Sabotaging Jake
One week, Jake started having an endless barrage of bad luck that kept making him late for work. The culmination was testing positive for drugs, which he definitely was not doing.
Jake realized that he was being sabotaged so Holt assigned Rosa Diaz and Amy to look into it. Not one to stand idly by, Jake tried to tag along. He was ultimately captured by the true saboteur, Geoffrey Hoytsman.
FIRE MARSHAL BOONE: He's A Firefighter
In the mind of Jake Peralta, the biggest offence committed by Boone was being a firefighter. Not only was he a firefighter, he was their leader. No one knows where the rivalry started but it probably has a lot to do with the relative public opinion of police and firefighters.
Still, the juvenile prank war that existed between them tended to get in the way of both sides actually doing work. Gina Linetti would have shut the whole thing down asap.
GEOFFREY HOYTSMAN: Kidnapped Jake
Due to his own actions and poor choices, Hoytsman lost his job, his home and both of his families. But Geoffrey didn't blame himself. No, he blamed Jake Peralta. He sabotaged Jake's life, then kidnapped him and did a crappy job of attempting to frame Jake for his various crimes.
Geoffrey's endgame was apparently to kill Jake, making it look like a suicide. Fortunately, Amy Santiago and Rosa showed up at the last second to rescue Jake.
