Hart has kept details surrounding Quicksilver's sequel well under wraps, but with the title and a few key details now released, some strong points of speculation can be made. Titles and cover art can be a clever way for authors to hint at plots and storylines without giving everything away directly. Similar to other popular fantasy book series, Hart could be revealing details surrounding the second book in the Fae & Alchemy series and what Saeris could be facing with this title.

The first book in the series, Quicksilver, is titled after the mysterious alchemical substance Saeris has the ability to manipulate and, on some occasions, even speak to, shifting the dynamics of Yvelia irrevocably. Saeris' journey forces her to reevaluate her sense of self and, by the end, changes her due to her actions to save Kingfisher. Given this fact, it's possible that the title could hint at Saeris dealing with the fallout of her bargain with Zareth, the trailer adding to this idea as it states the character's fates will "be fired in brimstone."

Quicksilver ends on the heels of several discoveries, leaving readers questioning what will happen to the book's main characters after the final series of events. The book concludes with Saeris awakening to find herself transformed into a half-Fae, half-vampire hybrid — and while she attempts to adjust to her new identity, it's clear from the trailer and blurb this development will greatly affect her character arc. Not only does Saeris have to come to with no longer being human, but her defeat of Malcolm and subsequent transition into a vampire has made her Queen of Sansaroth.

These elements alone would be enough to create havoc in the Quicksilver sequel, but they aren't the only factor that will come into play.

These elements alone would be enough to create havoc in the Quicksilver sequel, but they aren't the only factor that will come into play. Towards the end, Saeris is dragged through the quicksilver portal and finds Zareth, the god of chaos himself. After a brief discussion on the fate of the world, Zareth explains that her bond with Kingfisher is so strong that its counterbalance in the universe could threaten to destroy them all. While Hart only touches upon this element, the blurb makes it clear this narrative will be a focus throughout her fantasy book series.

On Callie Hart's author website, the FAQ page notes that the Quicksilver series is intended to become a fantasy trilogy. While this remains Hart's goal, there is the possibility for the series to extend further — and this will really just depend on whether Hart feels she can wrap up the narrative in three books alone. However, Hart's website also mentions that the author may explore possible spinoff books that will focus on the series' side characters.

These additional books to the series would likely sit in the same timeline and fantasy universe as the original Quicksilver series, but would offer readers a fresh take and storyline for a new character. Hart's series is full of beloved characters, and she's set up several whose arcs would serve well as a standalone addition to the series—one example being Carrion Swift, the lost Daianthus heir and the series' comedic relief.

As Netflix's acquisition of Quicksilver was announced a few weeks back, it's safe to assume the adaptation is a few years away from hitting screens. This comes as a huge relief, as Hart's Quicksilver series is not yet completed. Hart's publication timeline creates a need for Netflix to be intentional with their adaptation pacing, and ensure they avoid suring Hart's source material. Unfortunately, this has become a common trend for several fantasy adaptations in recent years, as studios have begun to outpace their source material and are forced to adapt outside the original storyline.

Netflix's Recommitment To The Fantasy Genre With Quicksilver Is A Shocking Turn Of Events After A Series Of Big Cancellations

Despite big cancellations, it looks like Netflix is recommitting to the fantasy genre with its huge acquisition of Callie Hart’s Quicksilver.

Thankfully, it's likely Netflix won't run into this issue with its Quicksilver adaptation, as Hart's current timeline will see Brimstone hitting shelves just over a year after the first book's release. If Hart's yearly publishing trend continues for the third book in the Fae & Alchemy series, readers can expect the trilogy's conclusion in late fall to early winter of 2026. In this case, Netflix should have no problem keeping pace with the Quicksilver novels. And avoiding this unfortunate trend will ultimately help Netflix's fantasy adaptation of Quicksilver stay faithful to the books.
