Nintendo appears to have some bad news for Switch 2 version of Breath of the Wild is coming to the new console, but it will be missing some content that fans might be expecting for a remaster of the complete existing game.

NintendoSoup (via TheGamer) reports that a Nintendo customer service representative claimed that the DLC that was released post-launch for Breath of the Wild will not be included with the purchase of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The two DLC packs are The Master Trials and The Champions' Ballad, which added new modes, a new story arc, new dungeons, and the Master Cycle. The two DLC packs apparently must be purchased as add-ons for the Switch 2 version of the game, assuming they are made available at all for the Switch 2 version.

Another Controversy For An Already Shaky Console Reveal

No DLC In A Remaster Is Rare

This news comes as a surprise, as most remasters of existing titles usually include most, if not all, of the currently released DLC for the title. The on Switch 2 will also include the Intermission story content starring fan-favorite ninja Yuffie that kept players busy until the release of FF7 Rebirth.

A Nintendo representative said that "all options are on the table" when it comes to a port of the Wii U Wind Waker HD possibly coming to Switch 2.

It would appear that first-party games that get Nintendo Switch 2 upgrades, like BotW, won't get the DLC from the original release upon purchase, but third-party games may, depending on the respective developer and publisher. This might be a change from the philosophy of the first Switch, because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe included all DLC from the Wii U version at release.

Our Take: Nintendo Is Making A Mistake

The Switch 2 Negativity Is Only Growing

The Switch 2 had a controversial reveal, with fans debating the console price and the decision to charge Mario Kart World at $80, which even led to a justify the purchase of the Switch 2 upgraded games.

The upgrade price for BotW and TotK is $10 if you already own the game, but the upgrades are free for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. How the DLC will be priced for BotW remains to be seen along with whether previous DLC purchases are compatible with the Switch 2 at all. Either way, this is disappointing news for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild players and Nintendo Switch 2 prospective buyers.
