Brad Pitt is already teasing some of the plot details for his Formula 1 racing movie. Pitt is currently signed on to act in two productions that have been revealed to the public, including the Formula 1 movie and Wolves, an Apple TV+ film about lone wolves forced to deal with each other as they take on the same job. While not much is known about Wolves, the Formula 1 movie has been kept even more closely under wraps.
In an interview with Sky Sports F1, Pitt offered a few early details about the mysterious movie. Check out the video below:
The Brad Pitt movie offers Pitt the chance to play a Formula 1 racer returning to the sport years after a devastating crash. With Damson Idris' Joshua Pearce at his side, Pitt will need to put everything he can into his races if he wants to finish on the podium. Read his full quote below, via Collider:
"The vibe is amazing, to get to be part of it and tell our story. The teams have opened their doors to us. I play a guy who raced in the 1990s who has a horrible crash and disappears, to race in other disciplines. His friend, played by Javier Bardem, the team owner, s him. They're last in the grid, they haven't scored a point. But they have a young phenom, played by Damson Idris, and they bring me in as kind of a hail mary. You've never seen speed, you've never seen the G-forces like this, the footage is really, really exciting. I wasn't nervous when I was out on the track today. The guys really prepared me well. There's a couple of corners where I can see the stands, but I was focused on the lines. I was able to appreciate the experience of driving when I was on the straights. This should be as authentic as we can get it. Lewis wants us to respect the sport, that we really show it for what it is. As a civilian, I had no idea what it takes to be a driver. The aggression and dexterity, I have so much respect for it."
Everything We Know About Brad Pitt's Racing Movie
Pitt's racing movie is currently untitled and in the middle of development. The film is being produced by Apple in coordination with Formula 1, allowing Pitt to collaborate with world-class racing stars along the way. He has been filming at the British Grand Prix and is working closely with Lewis Hamilton, a racing legend who has won a record-tying seven World Drivers' Championships. It's undoubtedly an excellent environment for Pitt to learn the world of Formula 1 racing.
Joseph Kosinski, director of Top Gun: Maverick, is taking the lead as the film's director, and he is taking top talent with him. Alongside Pitt and Hamilton, Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Tobias Menzies (Game of Thrones), Javier Bardem, and Damson Idris (Snowfall) have all agreed to take part in the untitled movie. There is currently no word on whether other actors will also be taking up parts, but, as the Formula 1 movie is still solidly in development, more news may emerge soon.
There is not currently any word on when the project will release. Given that it is still relatively early in the development cycle, a late 2024 or 2025 release is a possibility. The Writers Guild Strike of 2023 and the looming SAG-AFTRA strike could potentially cause some delays, though that remains to be seen. At the moment, Brad Pitt's Formula 1 movie is currently racing on towards the finish line, and it looks like it could be picking up speed.
