How, exactly, do Black Noir's powers work in The Seven. Under the employ of the Vought corporation, The Seven are the world's most famous, most powerful crime-fighters and consist of Homelander, Queen Maeve, A-Train, Stormfront, Starlight and Black Noir, with The Deep on an enforced sabbatical after a sexual misconduct scandal.
Each one of these characters has made their powers perfectly clear, either by frequent demonstration, or through an unyielding desire to show off. The only exception is Black Noir. Permanently masked and eternally silent, Black Noir is the big mystery man of The Seven. In addition to never showing his face or speaking, Black Noir also goes about his Vought duties with irable diligence, never questioning orders or deviating from the script. Even Homelander recognizes Noir's unerring consistency and dedication. This makes Black Noir's powers tricky to pin down. Not only does he never explain his abilities, but the character is so secretive, the audience are only afforded small glimpses of Black Noir in action. So what powers does he have?
Black Noir combines proper Compound V superpowers with the learned skills of a top-class ninja, making his superhuman traits even harder to discern. Black Noir has super-strength, as demonstrated when he keeps up physically with Kimiko in The Boys season 1. It's also clear that Noir possesses inhuman durability, as he survives a massive, fiery explosion from Naqib at point-blank range without so much as a stumble. These are the only genuine Compound V-given abilities Black Noir demonstrates, but his true worth lies in other skills. Noir is a near-silent ninja, able to creep up on opponents and emerge seemingly out of thin air, while also being incredibly handy when throwing a set of knives. During his fight with Kimiko, Black Noir shows expert agility, speed and senses - the result of both superhuman abilities and his extensive martial arts training.
In comparison to the rest of his colleagues in The Seven, Black Noir is perhaps closest to Queen Maeve in of superpowers, with strength and endurance his primary gifts. Whereas Maeve appears to have specialized in hand-to-hand combat alone, however, Black Noir has diversified to become a master of stealth and secrecy. This fits with the DC character Noir is supposed to represent. Although Tek-Knight blends influences from Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne, Black Noir borrows the style and approach of Batman, dropping out of the sky to take down unsuspecting criminals and silently dwelling in the shadows until called upon. Black Noir's habit of suddenly appearing and disappearing feels like an intentional play on the trick Batman uses to annoy Jim Gordon. Given how little viewers have seen of Black Noir so far, it is possible that there are more superpowers he's yet to demonstrate.
It's a little strange that a hero with relatively unspectacular powers and zero charisma would find his way into The Seven. Vought's top team is supposedly for elite supes only, but most of Noir's skills are teachable, rather than biological. Furthermore, Vought have shown a strong predisposition for hiring marketable, good-looking public figures who can make the company money and act convincing in a commercial. Black Noir doesn't really fit this description either, which begs the question of how he earned his place in The Seven. Those familiar with the comic version of The Boys will have an insight into why Vought value Black Noir, but whether the Amazon series opts to take the same route remains to be seen.
