Over the years, the Boruto anime has gained a reputation as one of the most controversial shows in existence. Despite its stunning animation and fascinating plot lines, the series became infamous among fans of the Naruto franchise for its abundance of fillers. Viewers loved some of these original additions to the plot, but several others were shunned for being boring and irrelevant to the story.
With the recent news that Boruto's anime is set to come back soon, there is an amazing opportunity for the series to use fillers in a unique way that would satisfy fans. Unlike the original series, which never fully developed the years Naruto spent away from Konoha with Jiraiya, Boruto could use its inevitable filler to give fans a chance to see what took place during the timeskip.
Boruto’s Story Could Be Further Developed by Filler
The Anime Should Not Waste This Opportunity
During its original run, the Boruto anime series was forced on several occasions to abandon the main plot and focus on filler arcs. The reason behind this decision was the lack of content the show could adapt, seeing as it came out while the manga was being written. To prevent the anime from becoming widely different from the original manga, the team behind the series opted to create original stories. Lamentably, this trend ended up taking over the show, making it almost completely filler. A large majority of the fandom abandoned the anime for this very reason.
Nonetheless, with the anime having been approved for a second part, this tradition could become exactly what the series needs to triumph. The existence of filler in the season of the show is almost a guarantee, seeing as the manga is still in its early stages and the material to adapt is limited. The team behind the series could use this opportunity to develop one of the most intriguing mysteries in the manga: Boruto’s life as an exile from Konoha.

Naruto Knows Sarada Will Sur Itachi, And a Single Easter Egg Makes It Clear
The reason why Sarada awakened her Mangekyo Sharingan hides a Easter egg about her uncle, Itachi Uchiha, highlighting her potential to sur him.
While the original version of the story has given fans a couple of flashbacks that help explain the journey of the titular protagonist during this time, there are still many fans who wish to know more. Seeing Boruto train and acquire the long list of techniques he possesses now is just one of the many scenes viewers wish to see come to life. By revealing the journey the hero went through before the beginning of the Two Blue Vortex manga, fans would be beyond satisfied, and the show could redeem itself in the eyes of viewers.
Boruto Could Amend Naruto’s Mistake
For Years, Fans Have Complained About the Time Skip
While it is true that the time skip between the end of the original Naruto anime and Shippuden brought with it one of the best stories of all time, it did leave quite a few fans displeased. Even decades after its release, viewers are still waiting for the events of this iconic trip to be revealed. The journey Naruto went on with his godfather, Jiraiya, was not only the key to becoming one of the best and most powerful ninjas in history, but also the push he needed to find himself.

We All Know Naruto Is Strong, But His Daughter Has What It Takes To Sur Him
Naruto’s daughter, Himawari, has inherited Kurama and a wealth of abilities making her easily one of the strongest characters in Boruto.
It was one of the most significant events in the life of the protagonist, and even then, Naruto has not attempted to depict what happened within that timeframe. The anime could not have successfully adapted these events as the original manga did not touch upon the subject more than a few times. However, the Boruto franchise would have no such issue, as fans already know that one of its strengths is creating original content based on the events of the manga. Naruto’s son could be the first hero to be seen training and growing in such a manner.
It Will Be Harder To Include Fillers in the New Season
The Story of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Has No Space for Side Quests
One of the main reasons why the idea of a filler arc depicting Boruto’s training with Sasuke and Kashin Koji would be a good idea is the plot of the series itself. Despite how amazing the story of the Two Blue Vortex manga has been so far, it does not lend itself to being ignored for a long period. Jura and the Divine Trees, the most powerful villains in the franchise, are one of the biggest threats the Shinobi World has ever seen. Boruto and his friends would have no time to go on side quests while these beings exist.
The first half of the story had the opportunity to include fillers as the villains, and the dangers that awaited the heroes were not always on the move. During its early stages, Boruto was the story of the next generation of the Hidden Leaf’s ninjas learning how to be the best they could be at their job. The current arc cannot permit itself to be replaced with a less important mission. As such, an arc focused on the time skip before Boruto: Two Blue Vortex would be an amazing addition.
