A Chuck Lorre comedy show is not getting renewed for season 3 at Max. Lorre is one of the most successful and well-known creators and producers in the history of sitcoms. He is a co-creator and executive producer behind the award-winning Dharma & Greg that aired from 1997-2002. Dharma & Greg's success was followed by Lorre co-creating and producing Two and a Half Men, which became a major hit for CBS and ran for 12 seasons and 262 episodes.

Lorre is now arguably best known for co-creating and producing The Big Bang Theory, which proved to be another CBS hit that lasted for 12 seasons. With Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, Lorre's involvement as a co-creator and producer has made the franchise among the most dominant on network television. He is now in the process of developing a Big Bang Theory spinoff for Max. Despite his many successes, one of his comedy series will not continue any further.

Max Is Not Moving Forward With Bookie

The Series Debuted In 2023

Max comedy show that premiered in 2023 follows Danny Colavito (Sebastian Maniscalco), an experienced bookie who struggles to navigate the world of sports betting after it becomes legalized while also dealing with his unpredictable clients. Bookie's cast also includes Omar Dorsey (Selma), Vanessa Ferlito (Graceland), and Jorge Garcia (Lost). The series was well-received, garnering a 90% Tomatometer and 86% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.

As per Variety, Max has now canceled Bookie ahead of a potential season 3. In a statement from Max, the show's "hilarious cast" is acknowledged, along with the story's ability to explore the world of sports betting. Even though there will be no season 3, it is made clear that the streamer is glad to have worked with Bookie's talent behind and in front of the camera. For two seasons, creators Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay and their hilarious cast, led by Sebastian Maniscalco, made us laugh while pulling back the curtain on the world of sports betting. We won’t be moving forward with a third season, but we are grateful to have worked with such a brilliant team on this laugh out loud comedy.

No Show Is Safe Cancelation

It is disappointing that Bookie season 3 is not happening, especially after the positive reception from critics and general audiences. Max's decision is intriguing given that Lorre is also at the forefront of developing a Big Bang Theory spinoff for them, which will be the franchise's first series that will not be released via CBS. While Max surely wants to maintain a positive relationship with Lorre, this did not automatically mean that Bookie would be renewed. Despite being one of the most influential individuals in the television industry, even a well-received Chuck Lorre show can be canceled.
