Warning: SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett episode 6.
The Book of Boba Fett episode 6 featured the return of a young Luke Skywalker and also included Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano, but, unfortunately, completely wasted the potential of their meeting. Aside from the confusing fact that a show named after Boba Fett has so little Boba Fett in it, the reveal of the two Force s at the site of Luke's budding Jedi academy was surprising, emotional, and satisfying. Even so, the surprise of Luke and Ahsoka sharing the screen in The Book of Boba Fett was offset by the disappointing realization that in canon, these two characters already knew each other.
Ahsoka's appearance was a strong moment that created a bridge all the way from the Star Wars prequels to the sequel trilogy. The idea that Anakin Skywalker's padawan was witness to the founding of Luke's Jedi Temple before its eventual destruction at the hands of Kylo Ren (something that has spawned theories) was certainly a smart choice. But given Ahsoka's history with the Skywalker family, this connective tissue may have been better established in a different way.
When Ahsoka first speaks to Din Djarin in The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, which acts as a de-facto primer for Force like Cal Kestis, the sheer potential weight of her first meeting with Anakin's son makes it a glaring omission from The Book of Boba Fett. It would likely be a hugely cathartic moment for both Ahsoka and Luke, who each knew Anakin Skywalker on a different side of his journey to and from the Dark side.
ittedly, Ahsoka and Luke meeting for the first time wouldn't make much sense in the context of The Book of Boba Fett. The Disney+ galaxy's remaining Jedi. A show dedicated to Ahsoka herself would also be much more focused on her emotional state and journey, making a meeting with Anakin's son, and a reckoning with her former master's actions, appropriate.
Perhaps what makes the idea of Luke and Ahsoka already knowing each other in The Book of Boba Fett is the fact that Ahsoka herself had very little to do in the episode. She essentially served as a buffer keeping Din Djarin from seeing Grogu - a job that could have been accomplished by R2D2, who was featured in the episode only briefly. Outside of a few brief lines of dialogue, Ahsoka and Luke hardly spent any time together at all. Ideally, flashbacks in Ahsoka will address what The Book of Boba Fett did not, and show the actual meeting of two of the most important Force-wielders in Star Wars.
The Book of Boba Fett season finale will be released on Wednesday, February 9th on Disney+.
