Black Widow will see its highly-coveted debut in theaters along with the option to stream on Disney+ Premier Access.
Set after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Black Widow follows Natasha on the run for breaking the Sokovia Accords, which forces her to confront her past. The MCU’s first Phase 4 film will introduce Romanoff's Russian “family,” which includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff, David Harbour as Red Guardian. It is confirmed Pugh will reprise her role in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, which could possibly see her assume the Black Widow mantle since Natasha is gone, although this is far from certain. The film’s mysterious villain Taskmaster has also sparked some interesting theories regarding their actual identity.
With Black Widow’s premiere date quickly approaching, its cast is starting to make the press rounds, including a recent appearance from the film’s lead star, Scarlett Johansson, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The host, known for playing wacky and inventive games with guests, tested Johansson's knowledge with a one-second Marvel quiz. The two took turns identifying MCU films from clips lasting just one second. Watch the segment below:
The Black Widow star fared very well during the challenge. After not being able to identify the robbery scene from Spider-Man: Homecoming, Johnasson correctly guessed the next two clips from Iron Man 2 and Avengers: Age of Ultron, both of which she appeared in as Black Widow. Johansson then finished strong by correctly guessing Captain Marvel based on a glimpse of Blockbuster Video and Avengers: Infinity War from its post-credits scene in which Nick Fury disintegrates after Thanos’ snap.
It would be interesting to see how other MCU stars fare in this challenge, especially Tom Holland, who Johnasson name-dropped during the segment. Perhaps her Black Widow co-stars Pugh, Weisz, or Harbour might stop by the Tonight Show in the lead-up to the film’s release and have their Marvel knowledge tested, especially since Black Widow will mark each of their MCU debuts.
