The new Black Ops 6's new Slipstream perk, will be unlocked during one of the in-season events.

Black Ops 6 has already had some big mid-season events, notably the Squid Game 2 crossover event that brought in new operator skins, new game modes, a new melee weapon, and the controversial paid event . One of Season 2's events will be the returning Terminator crossover, but Black Ops 6's future events are going to have to do something different to get players excited.

Black Ops 6 Events Have Been Very Straightforward

Events Are Just Another Free Battle At This Point

Whether they have been a big-name crossover event like Squid Game 2, or the regular CODMAS event in the winter, the Black Ops 6 events only require players to earn XP or complete basic challenges. December's Archie’s Festival Frenzy, for example, had an advent calendar-style rewards track that could be opened using "Archies" that players collected after eliminating an enemy in multiplayer, zombies, or Warzone - something everyone was already doing. The Squid Game 2 event didn't even have that level of complexity, only requiring players to earn XP while it was running.

Ranked Play has some changes coming in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2, including new rewards you can earn in online multiplayer and Warzone.

As a result of the event's lack of complexity, players could complete the limited-time season without interacting with the new modes or maps, which made Black Ops 6's events feel less like events. Instead, they're just another way to lock away content to force players to play more.

Season 2 Events Should Push Players In New Directions

Event Challenges Should Work With The Event's Maps And Modes

Simple challenges make earning rewards easier, but don't engage players in new ways. For more generic events like CODMAS, missions can be simpler, but should still encourage players to play on winter-themed maps or do silly but easy things like throwing snowballs to progress through the event faster.

Four new game modes are coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's online multiplayer, including two limited-time modes that won't last long in Season 2.

The thematic crossover events, like the Terminator crossover event taking place between February 6 and February 20, should require more engagement from players to earn the limited-time rewards. So far, it looks like Terminator will be similar to the Festival Frenzy event, requiring players to collect skulls after eliminating enemies. The event goes a step further, as players can earn more skulls by getting eliminations with fire or explosives, but that still isn't forcing players to try new things.

To make its events more exciting, Black Ops 6 should speed up players' progression when they interact with the event by playing on the limited-time maps and game modes. As they are now, Black Ops 6's events don't add anything exciting for players to do.
