Big Brother 25 host Julie Chen Moonves revealed two changes to the show's three-night schedule, one of which is causing anger towards the reality competition series. Since Big Brother 25's August 2 premiere, it has aired on Sundays at 8 p.m. EDT, Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT, and Thursdays at 9 p.m. EDT. This has been the standard schedule for many seasons.
However, some changes are coming to the times that will affect when fans view the show. In a Big Brother 25 live episode, Thursday night episodes will be moved to 8 p.m. EDT.
The Sunday, September 17 episode of Big Brother 25 will now air at 10:30 p.m. EDT / 10:00 p.m. PDT due to football overrun. The Sunday episodes will then air on the East Coast at 10 p.m. EDT every week after that. Sunday night episodes are often delayed by sports that air earlier in the day. Now that football season has begun, and NFL games will air, that time could be pushed to even later at night. Sports will be followed by 60 Minutes and Yellowstone. Big Brother's Wednesday night episodes will still air at 8:00 p.m. EDT as usual.
Big Brother Fans React To The Time Changes
Big Brother fans were shocked and angered by the Sunday night time change. In the comments section of the Instagram post, @daniellemuscarella wrote, "Ok so Sunday episodes will be watched on Mondays." @jesslundy3 added, "10:30 is ridiculous lol," while @taylorkobelja lamented, "10:30 is past my bedtime Julie." @jrkl11 offered a solution to the problem, saying, "Hear me out. Move 60 minutes to the morning and change Big Brother to 7." @christinewetzel had another idea, writing, "Just put it on Monday instead of Sunday!! Who is going to stay up until 10:30 to watch." @megwilliamsdpt referenced a Big Brother 25 twist, saying, "The multiverse is messing with my Sundays."
Big Brother is often treated like an afterthought by CBS when it airs on Sunday nights. Big Brother 25 has been delayed multiple times, causing people to miss the show when their DVRs don't record the episodes. By airing the show even later, it sends a message that Big Brother isn't a priority. Sunday night episodes reveal the Head of Household (HOH) competition results (if they don't air live on Thursdays) and the nominations. They have important information, so they should air at an appropriate time for most viewers to watch. Having Big Brother end at 11:30 p.m. EDT on a Sunday makes live viewing live difficult.
Big Brother fans don't seem to have any issue with the Thursday episodes airing an hour earlier. Although they're complaining about the Sunday night time change, CBS probably figures that it's unlikely that anyone will stop watching because of it. The Sunday night episodes are essential viewing, so people will most likely just watch them on Monday and try to avoid spoilers until then. Of course, the live feeds will already have spoiled everything anyway for fans who watch them. It'll be interesting to see if CBS changes its schedule after this fan outcry. For now, Big Brother 25 will be late-night viewing on Sunday nights.
Big Brother season 25 airs Sundays at 10:30 p.m. EDT, and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT, on CBS.
