Despite the irrefutable impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the sixth and final season of Breaking Bad, its parent show, which had just ended its epic run. To this day, Breaking Bad is hailed as one of the greatest television shows of all time, and few expected the spinoff to be able to compete in the wake of the original's overwhelming success. Nevertheless, Better Call Saul quickly established itself as a worthy successor to its predecessor, as well as appointment viewing on its own merits.

The Bob Odenkirk-centric prequel was recently renewed for a sixth and final season consisting of 13 episodes, bringing an end to this chapter of the Breaking Bad saga. After the myriad surprises and mysteries brought up by season five's surprising ending, anticipation for the grand finale of the series is at a fever pitch. With the Coronavirus pandemic effectively shutting down Hollywood for the time being, fans are concerned that Better Call Saul might be impacted like so many other shows and movies. According to series co-creator Peter Gould, this won't be the case.

In an interview with writers are currently hard at work assembling scripts for the thirteen episodes, working from home via virtual writers' rooms:

We just started working the last few weeks, and it is going to be a really big, big season. There are some things going on in the writers’ room that I’m really excited about. I’m so proud of all the seasons of the show and Season Five in particular, so we’re hoping for Season 6 not to be an anti-climax. Hanging over everything is the fact that I was so pleased with how “Breaking Bad” ended. People can’t help but start drawing comparisons between the two shows, and my fervent hope is that we’re able to stick the landing, the way Vince [Gilligan] led us to stick the landing on “Breaking Bad.”

It takes a lot of effort, a lot of hashing out details, to make sure every plotline ends in a satisfactory manner, that every character gets an ending that's worth watching for longtime fans. Since Better Call Saul is a prequel to Breaking Bad, there's added pressure, not just in following up on the original show's legacy, but in making sure everything lines up in of continuity.

To that end, Gould revealed that he managed to wrangle Breaking Bad mastermind (andGame of Thrones, but hopes are high Better Call Saul will be able to pull it off. Hopefully, fans won't have to wait any longer than necessary to find out.
