Warning: The following contains spoilers for Thor: Love And Thunder.
Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he is a hardcore warrior and extremely powerful, he also loves to joke around and has a surprisingly sweet side to him. He started off in the MCU as a rather arrogant figure, but, through time, he learned to become a good leader and ruler of Asgard. He has been through a lot of loss, but he still has an optimism and determination about him which is something to ire.
From lines that make fans laugh to those that inspire the warrior in everyone, these are the quotes that show just how great Thor is. Some of his best quotes have made him a fan favorite in the MCU.
Updated on July 22nd, 2022 by Amanda Bruce: With Thor: Love and Thunder having landed in theaters, fans have been treated to even more of Thor's great lines. While the movie might not have been as well-received by critics as Thor: Ragnarok, it still features Thor at his best. The movie showcases a little bit of his original confidence and swagger as well as his own strong belief in love, and Chris Hemsworth's great comedic timing.
"... Now They're But Humble Tools For Peace."
Thor: Love And Thunder (2022)
"These hands were once used for battle," Thor remarks when he delivers this line. This particular quote from Thor isn't entirely brilliant on its own. In context, however, it's truly memorable. Chris Hemsworth delivers the line perfectly as part of Thor's early bravado in the movie.
Thor thinks of himself as a peacemaker, even while he's still bashing heads and throwing thunder and lightning around while on his adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy. His speeches are a little cheesy, and this line is the same. If anyone else in the MCU said it, it probably wouldn't land very well.
"Brother, However I Have Wronged You... I Am Truly Sorry..."
Thor (2011)
"Brother, however I have wronged you, whatever I have done that has led you to do this, I am truly sorry. But these people are innocent, taking their lives will gain you nothing. So take mine, and end this."
Thor undergoes an important transformation in his first film. Initially portrayed as an arrogant and entitled individual, Thor transforms into someone who is comionate, empathetic, and humble. One of the most powerful moments of this transformation comes in the last act of the movie when confronting Loki on Earth.
For Thor, this confrontation isn't about power or strength; it's about being sincere and remorseful so he can help his brother and help the people of Earth. This character development allows him to be brave and selfless in a new and heroic fashion.
"Is He, Though?"
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
When Thor tries to convince Bruce Banner that he needs to bring the Hulk out, Bruce is resistant and tries to argue that he is more powerful and useful than the Hulk. Thor's response "Is he, though?" has Thor: Ragnarok's most quotable moments.
Everyone can relate to what is essentially a "yeah... but no" response, a moment made even better by Thor's amusing facial expression and the tone he uses when delivering the line.
"Eight Years, Seven Months, And Six Days..."
Thor: Love And Thunder (2022)
Thor might pretend to be over the things from his past that broke his heart, but Thor: Love and Thunder demonstrates that heartbreak is never truly far from Thor's mind. In addition to tattoos honoring those he's lost, he's very quick to correct people about any of the more emotional aspects of his past.
This happens when Jane, as Mighty Thor, wonders just how long it's been since they've seen each other. While she thinks it's only been a few years, her sense of time is skewed as a result of her being one of the people lost following Thanos' Snap. Thor, however, demonstrates that he hasn't forgotten the last time he saw her with a precise count of the days. Even though he's had a lot going on, like the destruction of Asgard, losing Loki, meeting Valkyrie, and fighting Thanos, he still knows exactly how long it's been since he last saw Jane. The line is played for laughs, but it's a great insight into Thor's heart.
"Loki... I Thought We Were Gonna Fight Side By Side Forever."
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Thor: Ragnarok is a humorous film, but it also contains a great deal of heart and sincerity. This definitely shines through in this scene where Thor reveals the profound respect, iration, and love he had for his brother.
Loki spent so much of his life trying to prove he was better than Thor when all he really needed to do was show the same unconditional love that Thor once had for him. This is a pivotal moment that sets up the culmination of Loki's redemption arc at the end of Thor: Ragnarok and the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War.
"I Went For The Head."
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
When Thor buries Stormbreaker into Thanos's chest during the Battle of Wakanda, Thanos utters the iconic line, "You should've gone for the head." In the lead-up to Avengers: Endgame, fans joked and debated about this line endlessly, wondering how things could've been different if Thor went for his head and how the mistake would haunt him moving forward.
When Thor decapitates Thanos in the first 20 minutes of Avengers: Endgame and declares, "I went for the head," he addresses the speculation head-on. Yet, it wasn't a victorious moment as Thanos had already used the Infinity Stones to wipe out half the universe and now the Stones were destroyed. It appeared that Thor was too late and the damage was already alone, making the moment even more tragic for his character.
"Don't Worry. Your Arm Is Probably In Valhalla."
Thor: Love And Thunder (2022)
Plenty of fans were curious about what happened to Lady Sif and why she wasn't shown onscreen in Ragnarok or Infinity War. While fans still don't know what she was up to during those years, they do get to see her again in Love And Thunder as Thor responds to her distress call when she battles Gorr The God Butcher.
Sif is ready to let Thor leave her to death, but he reminds her that if she dies after battle then she doesn't get into Valhalla, which she finds as reason enough to fight to live. Of course, he also tries to give her the silver lining that the arm she lost in battle is probably waiting for her in Valhalla. It might not entirely reassure Sif about her eventual fate, but it does give the audience a slight chuckle that they haven't missed a beat in their friendship.
"I'm Still Worthy."
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
When audiences see Thor after the five-year time jump in Avengers: Endgame, it's clear that he is struggling with a number of issues, including depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. After a therapeutic conversation with his mother Frigga during his time-travel adventures, Thor is able to summon his hammer Mjolnir and bring it back to his present reality.
Declaring "I'm still worthy," after successfully summoning the hammer is a wholesome and triumphant moment, a reminder that no matter what someone is going through, that person is still worthy and that better days are ahead.
“THIS DRINK, I LIKE IT! ANOTHER!”
Thor (2011)
This quote happens way back at the start of the first Thor movie when Thor was much younger and more full of himself. He didn’t know much about Earth customs at the time, and his fish-out-of-water actions were quite funny.
This line gave fans the first real insight into how funny, jovial, and confident Thor is as a character, and it will always be one of his most classic and memorable lines as it’s also just a lot of fun to say. It gets used by plenty of MCU fans when they love a particular movie, show, or character.
“You People Are So Petty. And Tiny.”
The Avengers (2012)
In the first Avengers movie, it was clear that bringing all of these Marvel heroes together would be really difficult. With so many strong and distinct personalities in the room, melding them all together to work as a team would never be an easy feat.
In this funny quote, Thor is looking down upon the arguments of humans. He is much older and wiser in his own way, but it’s also a funny quote because Thor isn’t necessarily a person to always think or act rationally either.
