Apple TV+'s Mythic Quest is a promising comedy series from an underrated streaming platform, but the show has a lot to offer that puts it on par with other popular shows with a similar vibe. Mythic Quest is a comedy series that follows a group of people who work in a popular video game publishing company. As such, the team is large, with various people in different teams that all have contradicting and intriguing personalities.

From the video game testers to ants to heads of HR, there are plenty of different characters to engage with. Leading the charge is the eccentric creator of their most popular game, Ian Grimm, played by Rob McElhenney, who also helped to create and write the series. This workplace comedy, mixed with occasional video game graphics, and plenty of eccentric characters, is a wonderful blend of comedy, emotion, and fun. It also evokes a similar style of comedy and fun as other popular shows that follow similar patterns.

It is quite obvious that any fan of Mythic Quest will want to check out the first spinoff series, Side Quest. The aptly and ingeniously named series is an anthology show of sorts that expands the world of Mythic Quest. The four-episode show follows standalone stories surrounding the Mythic Quest game and some of the players, developers, and critics of the video game as they get to lead their own tales.

Rather than be something akin to the webisodes of the past, these standalone stories expand the story in real ways, exploring the show's own mythology and including some very entertaining characters, both new and featured in the original series. Best of all, the series features the same sharp and hilarious sense of humor that has made Mythic Quest such a hit. It is the perfect show to watch while waiting for new episodes of the original series.

Mythic Quest begins with a big personality coming into an existing team and completely taking over and its fellow Apple TV+ comedy series Ted Lasso has a similar premise. While Mythic Quest's Ian Grimm is a self-centered disruptor in the beginning, Ted Lasso is a breath of fresh and positive air. The series stars Jason Sudeikis as the main character, an optimistic American football coach who is unexpectedly hired as the coach of a Premier League team in England.

Like with Ian in Mythic Quest, there are a lot of growing pains with the arrival of the new "boss" and it completely changes the dynamic of the ensemble. Some characters are completely resistant to Ted, while others find him to be exactly what the team needs. Neither Ted nor Ian seem to belong in the respective worlds they step into, but part of the charm of both shows is seeing them become part of the community with big laughs along the way.

The dynamic between Ian and Poppy in Mythic Quest is one of the best aspects of the show and it brings to mind the similar relationship shared by Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy in 30 Rock. The series is set behind the scenes of a middling late-night sketch comedy show that Liz has developed only for her new corporate boss, Jack, to step in and begin reshaping the entire show as he sees fit.

They also explore the idea of a micromanaging boss who doesn't really understand the creative world coming in...

Both 30 Rock and Mythic Quest take place in fun and unique workplaces that offer a lot of fun scenarios. They also explore the idea of a micromanaging boss who doesn't really understand the creative world coming in and thinking that they know what is best for the show. 30 Rock embraced the absurdist humor and broke from reality more than Mythic Quest, but both shows are hilarious with a wonderful cast of colorful characters.

While the world of video game developers is quite far away from that of a police department, is a feel-good comedy series that is a must-watch for Mythic Quest fans. The series centers around the various eccentric and hilarious characters within a New York City police department, with the main focus on the talented but immature detective Jake Peralta and the stern yet inspiring new captain Raymond Holt.

This is another sitcom that focuses on the dynamic shift with a "new boss" coming in to upset the established order. However, Holt is nearly the exact opposite of Ian Grimm as he is a brilliant police officer who demands the best from his people. However, ultimately, both shows work because they understand the fundamental necessity of a successful sitcom, especially a workplace sitcom, which is an ensemble of great characters.

Another workplace sitcom that excels because of its characters, the cast of Abbott Elementary has helped to turn it into one of the most acclaimed comedy series on television. The series is set in Philadelphia at an underfunded public school, following the dedicated and resourceful teachers as they try to make do with their chaotic classroom lives and the limited resources at their disposal.

One of the main elements that makes Abbott Elementary so similar to Mythic Quest is the character of Principal Ava Coleman. Just like Ian Grimm, she is a boss who is self-indulgent and lazy, yet sees herself as the most important part of the team, despite the fact that the others are clearly doing all of the work. Also, for fans looking for a little more Rob McElhenney to enjoy, Abott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia had a crossover episode recently, bringing two hilarious shows together.

One of the most similar shows to Mystic Quest that springs to mind is Silicon Valley. This award-winning comedy series is set in the high-paced tech industry based in Silicon Valley, California. A team of individuals who work together at a large tech company needs to work hard to keep up with the competition and ensure they don't fall behind despite the break-neck pace of change and development.

The show features a wonderful and talented cast, and every episode highlights new challenges for the team to overcome together. This leads to conflict, comedy, and plenty more that plays out over the course of six seasons. While Silicon Valley wrapped in 2019, Mythic Quest provides an incredible alternative for fans of the series looking for something to fill the void.

While takes the story to a very different part of America, and trades in the high-tech high-rise office for a dingy local bar, it shares a lot in common with the style of comedy and sense of humor from MQ. This is likely because Rob McElhenney is actually a creator, writer, and star on both shows. In addition, he is ed by It's Sunny in Philadelphia co-star, Charlie Day, and IASIP producer and director Megan Ganz in creating and writing Mystic Quest.

There is a lot to love in both shows, and both have continued to land consistently high ratings throughout their runs. ittedly, as It's Sunny in Philadelphia enters its 17th season, it's clear that the show has an established and dedicated fanbase, but thanks to the crossover in talent behind the scenes, this also speaks to the potential for Mystic Quest to have many more years of success.

In a similar vein, Community is a show that stars Danny Pudi, who also has a prominent role as Brad Bakshi in Mythic Quest. While Pudi's characters in each show have striking contrasts, the performance of the actor is equally brilliant in either show. Community leans into absurd, experimental, and wild comedy, changing style from episode to episode, and it led to a dedicated fanbase who appreciate and ire the creativity and fun of the show.

In a similar vein, Mythic Quest is not afraid to experiment with the format and has big changes in style and tone between episodes. While this may not be for everyone, the fanbase for either show is likely to appreciate the humor, comedy, and level of creativity in both series.

Secret Level is perhaps one of the boldest anthology shows of recent years. Debuting on Prime Video, the anthology video game series is another show that experiments with style and tone from episode to episode, though much more drastically in the case of Secret Level. Each episode highlights a different video game and offers viewers a thrilling experience as the art and narrative change.

Mythic Quest is not afraid to experiment with the format.

This is certainly a departure in many ways from Mythic Quest, but in the sense that it follows video games, and resonates with fans of this space, it's a worthy watch in association with Mythic Quest. However, as an anthology show, every episode is different, and that means some episodes will connect with audiences more than others.

Finally, Superstore stands out as another great modern office workplace comedy set in a large general goods store. While this setting is evidently less high-energy, and more ordinary, the show does a great job at highlighting the fun and excitement that can come out of ordinary settings. It also features an exceptional cast with America Ferrera as the central figure, alongside standout performances from people like Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, and Nico Santos.

The humor echoes the same style as Mythic Quest, and while the settings are different, both shows revolve around the colorful cast of characters. The setups are wacky and wild, there's romance, humor, and heartbreak, and both shows do a great job building up their individual characters' storylines. And while each show listed above has its own unique selling points, fans of Mythic Quest will likely enjoy aspects of each for their similarities and differences.
