While Naruto and Sasuke that powered Masashi Kishimoto's original saga with a conflict between Boruto and Kawaki, a more compelling competition exists that would broaden the appeal of the Naruto-verse.
One of the most important subplots of the Naruto saga was the rivalry between Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. Although it began as a normal competition between classmates, it grew into the primary tension that threatened the world's existence, and ultimately lead to its salvation. Reconciliation between the spirits of Indra and Asura at long last allowed Konoha and the other four Great Ninja Nations to enjoy a period of great peace. In Boruto, Kishimoto seems to have decided that a return to the rivalry model is a good means to push the story along. The rivalry in this case seems to be developing between Naruto's son Boruto, and the technologically enhanced Kawaki. In many ways, their relationship is much like the one between Naruto and Sasuke. However, at present, they seem much more friendly and willing to work with one another. They even planned out and committed Boruto's death together.
While son of the Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi. His mother, Kurenai Yuhi, is one of the few female kunoichi to reach the Jonin level and is also of the best s of genjutsu in Konaha. There is also the fact that both are females of a similar age who are outstanding young ninjas with unlimited potential and strong from their community.
Sarada vs. Mirai Is The Phantom Rivalry
There is also the existence of ideal conflict conditions. Both Sarada and Mirai have aspirations to be Hokage. As there is only one Hokage position, it is this aspect of the rivalry where the competition will most likely "come to a head." While Sarada has made known her intentions to be Hokage one day, Mirai has been less unequivocal. However, as demonstrated in The Steam Ninja Scrolls, as she becomes more experienced, the expectations of others that she should be Hokage will undoubtedly increase her interest in assuming the position.
Taken together, these ingredients for competition, make for a much more interesting rivalry between Sarada and Mirai than Boruto and Kawaki, which could reasonably be argued has become more of an internal Otsutsuki Clan issue than the seismic conflict between Naruto and Sasuke. Moreover, the Sarada - Mirai conflict in Boruto, if it evolves to include becoming Hokage, has the potential to have an even larger impact, socially, than Naruto and Sasuke's relationship.
Boruto is now available from Viz Media.
