Dragon Age: Inquisition hit the shelves in 2014, receiving universal acclaim from critics and audiences alike; it even won Game of the Year at the first-ever Game Awards. The game's intricate lore, complex and well-developed characters, and action-packed story made it one of the best RPGs of the new millennium, and fans are eagerly expecting the fourth entry.
Indeed, Inquisition features an addictive storyline that keeps fans hooked to the console. And in the age of the internet, fans continue engaging with the game via memes that celebrate, summarize, and occasionally mock the storyline, but always from a place of genuine appreciation.
Spymaster Of Death
Leliana debuted in Dragon Age: Origins as one of the best companions in the game. She returns in Inquisition as the Spymaster for the organization, a silent but deadly woman who won't hesitate in killing anyone that comes in her way. Players can either "soften" or "harden" Leliana through their decisions; the former will be more thoughtful and merciful, while the latter will act shamelessly and brutally.
A hardened Leliana will always kill her enemies, and this meme perfectly captures her ruthless essence. It pokes fun at Leliana's savage ways, present throughout Inquisition's plot. Leliana is certainly a fan favorite, but her policies are questionable at best.
Inquisition Meets Spongebob
The plot of Inquisition follows the titular organization as it forms to battle the darkspawn Corypheus. The story sees their continuous efforts to strategically take down the ancient magisters, all in the name of the Inquisitor and the organization they represent.
Memes often poke fun at a game's weak spots, and this one does so in a hilarious and quite wholesome way. It uses one of SpongeBob SquarePants' most famous moments to make fun of Corypheus' followers, resulting in a hysterical clash of worlds that no fan saw coming.
Romance For Dummies
Dragon Age: Inquisition features several possible romances that make the game all the more special. Players can flirt with multiple characters, but they can only pursue a formal relationship with one, and there are plenty of options to choose from among the pool of companions and advisors.
Every romance is unique, and every character has its own set of flaws and advantages. This hilarious but surprisingly accurate diagram presents seven romance options, plus Varric, and perfectly summarizes them. It's a clever albeit oversimplified way to look at them, but players familiar with these characters will surely have a couple of laughs looking at it.
Requisitions, Amirite?
As with any other RPG, Dragon Age: Inquisition features multiple quests, some more difficult than others. Some of these quests, known as Requisitions, are repeatable, making them an easy way to gather supplies and increase influence. Players can trigger them by talking to the Requisition officer at every camp throughout the game.
Some players might not know Requisitions are repeatable, and they might keep doing them, hoping to complete the quest chain. This meme pokes fun at the excess of Requisition quests in the game by doing a rather silly pun on the name "Inquisition." As far as memes go, it might not be the most clever, but it certainly is one of the most poignant.
Dread Wolf? Right...
Solas is one of the Inquisitor's default companions in the game, an Elven mage apostate who remains secretive during his time with the Inquisition. At the end of the game, he reveals his true identity as Fen'Harel, the legendary God of Elven lore known as the Dread Wolf. He plans to tear down the Veil and restore the Elves to their previous glory.
In Elven myths, Fen'Harel appears treacherous and dangerous, but Solas is rather plain and perhaps even unimpressive. This meme mocks this inconsistency by equating the mighty Fen'Harel and the unremarkable Solas with Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia, the legendary witcher, and Ross Geller wearing leather pants. It's a hilarious dig at poor Solas and a perfect way to describe his presence in the game.
Hero Of Ferelden Who?
included a slew of great companion characters and an iconic lead figure: the legendary Warden. Also known as the Hero of Ferelden, this mythic character saved Thedas from the Fifth Blight before disappearing on a secretive and elusive mission.
During Inquisition, the Inquisitor has the option to ask several characters about the Hero's whereabouts, most notably Leliana, Alister, and Morrigan. They will all provide vague answers, claiming the Hero is away on a secret mission or evading the question. This comical meme makes fun of the characters' outright lazy responses while still respecting the Warden's memory.
Solas Sparrow
As previously mentioned, Solas is shaping up to be the franchise's most significant antagonist. His role as a God of the Elven pantheon easily makes him one of the most OP characters in the Dragon Age lore, while his ambitious plan puts Corypheus to shame.
Still, for all his impressive qualities, Solas is a bit of a goof. He is not a particularly imposing or threatening God, and his first attempt to tear down the Veil backfired spectacularly. This meme pokes fun at Solas' lackluster reputation by comparing him to Jack Sparrow, the best character in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for Solas, it is.
Glow Up Of The Century
Commander Cullen Stanton Rutherford is one of the few characters in the franchise to appear in every game so far. However, he plays his most significant role in Inquisition, acting as the Inquisition's commander and a romance option for a female human or elf Inquisitor.
Cullen is one of the dreamiest characters, a fan-favorite considered one of the best romances in the Dragon Age franchise. Indeed, Cullen is the stuff of gaming dreams thanks to his smooth voice, sharp jaw, high cheekbones, and wavy blonde hair. No one would've guessed that the clumsy Templar from Origins would become such a hunk, but Cullen's appearance in Inquisition is enough to make fans swoon, thanks to the improvement in gaming design, and this meme is the perfect way to portray his massive glow-up.
Welcome To The Hinterlands
The first location in the game is a sprawling forest area known as the Hinterlands. Absurdly large and filled with as many side quests as possible, the Hinterlands often seem like a neverending story. Players can spend hours of playtime on this location alone, making it rather infamous among the fandom.
The Hinterlands is also famous for its abundance of bears that randomly and savagely attack the Inquisitor and their companions. These beasts appear out of nowhere and can kill the unprepared with astounding ease, so this meme is both incredibly hilarious and painfully accurate.
Inquisitor Who?
Inquisition features a terrifying event for Thedas, arguably the most dangerous threat the continent has seen thus far. Naturally, anyone with half a brain would expect one of the two previous heroes, the Warden and Hawke, to step up and volunteer themselves. However, the game needed a new hero, so the Warden and Hawke are MIA throughout the entire ordeal.
This meme is the perfect way to make fun of this slightly absurd choice. The Inquisitor is a very intriguing character, and Inquisition is a better game for including them, but it's fairly unbelievable that the two famous heroes who already stopped potentially catastrophic events wouldn't be there to save Thedas again.
