Players looking to upgrade their cult in Cult of the Lamb, known only as The One Who Waits, who offers The Lamb resurrection in exchange for it amassing a cult in its name.

As players build up their cult, they will eventually need to level it up through Doctrines. There are a total of 40 Doctrines in the game, and they are divided into five categories: Sustenance, Afterlife, Work and Worship, Law and Order, and Possessions. To get these upgrades, players will need to acquire three Commandment Stone fragments in order to get a complete one, which can then be used to gain one of two Doctrines. Players can start with whatever category they prefer but can never have more than one option per tier in that category.

The various categories of Doctrines will help players improve distinct aspects of their cult in this creepy and cute game. Sustenance, for example, focuses heavily on managing followers' hunger levels, while Afterlife provides various perks related to deaths. Work and Worship, on the other hand, can be extremely useful to make followers more efficient worshipers or workers. Law and Order will assist players with managing their cult's Loyalty while also offering some tools to cull dissent. Lastly, Possessions will focus on the material aspects of the game and gives players more options to accrue coins or increase their value.

How to Get Commandment Stones in Cult of the Lamb

Cult of the Lamb Commandment Stone

Learning a Doctrine in Cult of the Lamb will consume one complete Commandment Stone, which players can get by combining three fragments. The three main ways to get these are beating bosses, buying them from merchants, and increasing followers' Loyalty in Cult of the Lamb. Bosses can be found at the end of a crusade and will drop these resources when defeated while at the same time becoming available to be converted, allowing players to gain another follower that they can level up to get even more. Cultists can be leveled up by increasing their Loyalty, which can be gained through several means, such as through daily Blessings and Sermons, gifts, or by completing their quests when they become available.

It is important to note that the best Doctrines for each player will heavily depend on their play style and preferences. If players are having trouble managing Loyalty, it might be a good idea to focus on the Law and Order category and choose Doctrines that will help keep followers in line. On the other hand, if players feel like their cult is under control and simply want to improve their productivity, the Work and Worship category may provide more value as it can help them produce resources or Devotion in Cult of the Lamb more efficiently. With that in mind, these are some Doctrines that in general will offer most players the best value.

Work and Worship

1

[Trait] All cult will gain the Faithful Trait. Generate Devotion 15% faster.

Although Industrious, the alternative to this trait, may be better in the long run, Faithful provides immense value from the get-go and will allow players to farm Devotion extremely fast. This will let players use the shrine more often to unlock Divine Inspiration, which they can then use to improve their cult and buy more buildings and upgrades. This Doctrine is a great first pick as its effectiveness will eventually start to wane towards the late game as players run out of things to unlock or upgrade in Cult of the Lamb.

2

[Ritual] Perform a Ritual at your temple that allows you to bring a dead Follower back to life.

As players progress in Cult of the Lamb, they will eventually invest a lot of time and resources into their cultists, so having their favorite follower die can feel pretty devastating. The Resurrection ritual is the only mechanic in the game that allows players to bring back their best followers with traits and levels intact. This ability can be very useful to maintain high-level followers, something that players can use to level up The Lamb faster, as even those that have been sacrificed or ascended can be brought back.

1

[Ritual] Perform a Ritual at your temple to declare a fast. Followers will not eat or be hungry for 3 days.

This Doctrine can be extremely powerful when combined with other rituals, such as Brainwashing and Glory Through Toil in Work and Worship’s Tier 4. The Brainwashing ritual will lock the cult's Faith at max for two days, and Glory Through Toil will make followers work three days and nights in a row without getting tired. When combined, these rituals allow players to run dungeons in Cult of the Lamb for an extended period of time without having to worry about drops in Faith or Loyalty from their followers.

Bribe Follower

Possessions

1

Unlocks Bribe Follower Action. Bribe a Follower with 3 coins to increase their Loyalty.

Loyalty will impact the level of followers, and it is also one of the hardest resources to manage in Cult of the Lamb. The two main methods to increase it are through Sermons and Blessings, which can only be performed once per day, so having the extra option to improve it with coins can be extremely useful. Coins are relatively easy to get in the game, and paying three to duplicate a blessing is a pretty efficient use of money. As followers' Loyalty increases and they gain levels, players will also receive Commandment Stone fragments that can then be used to get more upgrades in Cult of the Lamb, by acquiring more Doctrines.

2

[Trait] All Cult will gain the Grass Eater Trait. No negative Faith when a Follower eats a meal made from grass.

Keeping the cult’s hunger in check is an important aspect of Cult of the Lamb, and it is not always easy to do so without consequences. With this trait, players will be able to feed their followers grass without running the risk of making them sick, as a lot of meals in the game have a chance of causing disease. Grass can also be farmed pretty easily during crusades, allowing players to feed their cult without much effort.
