fired from Below Deck Sailing Yacht. Gary has been Captain Glenn Shephard's First Officer since Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2. While Gary has never been formally accused of sexual misconduct in the past, his playboy attitude has been clear throughout his time on the series, leading to speculation over whether his actions have gone too far in the past.
According to Rolling Stone, Gary was allegedly inappropriate with Below Deck makeup artist Samantha Suarez during the production of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, which filmed in Italy in summer 2022. Samantha alleged that Gary "was behaving erratically" and eventually grabbed her from behind. That's when she attempted to free herself, seemingly to no avail. Samantha had been in charge of escorting cast to and from their rooms, keeping them isolated for production for interview segments.
Bravo Claims Allegations Against Gary King Were Investigated
Samantha alleged that Gary was given a lot of alcohol from the producers, and she had to escort him to his room following an on-camera interview. Gary, who had given everyone grief about staying isolated in his hotel room, begged Samantha not to leave even after she explained that she had to. According to Samantha, Gary's drunken behavior was difficult to deal with. "There is no limit to alcohol consumption whatsoever [from production], which I think poses a really big problem," Samantha shared.
While Samantha wasn't thrilled with the response from Below Deck Sailing Yacht's production company regarding her claims, Bravo explained that the accusations were thoroughly investigated. According to a spokesperson from the network, "Bravo is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew...We require our third-party production companies to have appropriate workplace policies and trainings in place...The concerns Ms. Suarez raised in July 2022 were investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings." While Bravo claimed that the allegations were investigated, Gary will be appearing in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 and attending 2023's BravoCon event.
Though Gary has yet to respond to the allegations, it's clear that his social media presence has changed over the course of his time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht. While there hasn't been any confirmation of the accusations at hand or other accusations made against Gary in the past, he did recently apologize for his actions towards one of his castmates. Gary was held able for inappropriate actions towards his co-star Mads Herrera, apologizing at the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 reunion special after being asked about his behavior directly. This isn't the first time Gary has found himself being asked about his intentions and overall behavior.
With Below Deck Sailing Yacht returning for another season that includes Gary, the Bravo star may need to answer for his actions and respond to the allegations being made against him. As there have been accusations of poor behavior made about Gary in the past, including several by Below Deck crew , Gary's reputation isn't the best regarding consent. It may prove to be in Below Deck Sailing Yacht's best interest to part ways with the First Officer moving forward, especially if the accusations lodged against Gary prove true.
