Bel-Air season 3 followed Will during his first summer in California after completing his junior year of high school. The season started with some immediate twists, with Will taking a step back from basketball, Hilary coming back from Europe engaged to Lamarcus, and Carlton returning from rehab. The season also dealt with Aunt Viv and Uncle Phil’s marital issues, and Geoffrey’s past becoming his present.
characters apart from their Fresh Prince counterparts with interesting new storylines and character developments. However, Bel-Air season 4 could be more faithful to Fresh Prince than expected following the season 3 finale.
Did Lamarcus Die At The End Of Bel-Air Season 3?
Lamarcus ed Out On His Honeymoon With Hilary
The Bel-Air season 3 finale centered around Lamarcus and Hilary’s wedding in Martha’s Vineyard. There were some hiccups along the way that made it seem like the wedding might not actually happen. Hilary’s engagement ring went missing, only for Jazz to find it in his apartment. Jazz then traveled all the way from California to deliver the ring to his ex-girlfriend on her wedding day. Unfortunately, Lamarcus saw him, and Hilary finally fessed up about her and Jazz’s kiss at the beginning of Bel-Air season 3.
Just when it seemed like Lamarcus wouldn’t show up at the altar, he appeared. The wedding then went off without a hitch, with Jazz not objecting as some viewers may have expected and hoped for. Though Hilary and Jazz aren’t fully over each other, as Will said, Hilary chose Lamarcus. While the wedding was a success, at the end of Bel-Air season 3, Lamarcus ed out during their honeymoon. The season ended before it could be confirmed whether Lamarcus was alive.
Lamarcus was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in Bel-Air. This is the same condition Dan and Lucas Scott were diagnosed with in One Tree Hill.
This is similar to how Bel-Air season 3, episode 3 ended, with Lamarcus collapsing on the football field. Lamarcus survived the incident, but it was revealed he had a heart condition. Since then, Lamarcus has been pushing himself to recover, and perhaps he overdid it. Lamarcus might not be as fortunate this time, and Hilary could become a widow as quickly as she became a wife. The love triangle between Jazz, Hilary, and Lamarcus in Bel-Air could have a tragic ending in season 4.
Will’s Kidnapping & Geoffrey Leaving In Bel-Air Season 3 Explained
Geoffrey’s Past Caught Up To Him In Bel-Air Season 3
One of Geoffrey’s saddest Fresh Prince storylines was repeated in Bel-Air with his son Frederick, who was put up for adoption to protect him from Geoffrey’s gang affiliations. After the father and son first reunited in Bel-Air season 2, he returned in season 3 to spend the summer in California. However, he wasn’t just there to spend time with his biological dad. Frederick was also escaping the dangers of life in London, as Geoffrey’s old organization was keeping tabs on him.
One of these organization was Roman, played by the original Geoffrey actor from Fresh Prince, Joseph Marcell. Roman told Geoffrey if he didn’t come back to London and pay his debts, he’d be putting Frederick at risk. After considering going back to England, Geoffrey paid Roman off instead. However, the Bel-Air season 3 finale revealed his plan hadn’t worked as he’d hoped. Thus, Geoffrey planned to run away with Frederick and Frederick’s mother, Penelope.

Every Original Fresh Prince Actor Who Returns In Bel-Air's Remake
The re-imagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, titled Bel-Air, has featured appearances from the original cast in different roles.
Geoffrey left a letter for Uncle Phil, telling him this. Unfortunately, Will had already tried to take matters into his own hands by visiting the apartment where Geoffrey, Frederick, and Penelope had been living. The apartment was unsurprisingly empty, but what was shocking was what happened next. After leaving the apartment, Will was kidnapped by the people who had been following Geoffrey. Geoffrey left to keep his family and the Banks family from danger, but it backfired in the Bel-Air season 3 finale.
The Bel-Air Season 3 Finale Revealed Aunt Viv Is Pregnant
Bel-Air Could Be Repeating A Major Fresh Prince Aunt Viv Storyline
Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv have been through many ups and downs in Bel-Air, and the season 3 finale just threw another curveball their way. The Bel-Air season 3 finale hinted at Aunt Viv being pregnant by having her experience symptoms, with a pregnancy test confirming this at the end of the episode. This is one of the ways Bel-Air is staying faithful to the original series, as Aunt Viv was pregnant in season 3 of Fresh Prince. Aunt Viv’s pregnancy was written into Fresh Prince when her actor, Janet Hubert, got pregnant in real life.

Why Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air Recast Aunt Vivian After Season 3
Why was Aunt Vivian, played by Janet Hubert, replaced and recast after season 3 of Will Smith's hit sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air?
At first, it seemed as though Bel-Air wouldn’t be going down that route, as the new Aunt Viv actor, Cassandra Freeman, isn’t pregnant. Yet, the Bel-Air season 3 ending shocked viewers by introducing what will likely become the Nicky storyline. In the original Fresh Prince series, Hubert’s pregnancy played a role in Aunt Viv being recast as Daphne Maxwell Reid. Fortunately, that’s a Fresh Prince detail that Bel-Air won’t incorporate in the re-imagining. Aunt Viv’s pregnancy marks a major change for her character and the Banks family.
Bel-Air Season 3 Is Reversing One Of Fresh Prince’s Weirdest Storylines
Vy Has A New Boyfriend In Bel-Air
While Bel-Air is continuing a Fresh Prince storyline with Aunt Viv’s pregnancy, they are thankfully avoiding one of the show’s strangest storylines. Will’s mother Vy returned in the Bel-Air season 3 finale to attend Hilary’s wedding. However, she didn’t come alone. Vy brought her new boyfriend, Gerald, who worked at the hospital with her. Though Will initially struggled with his mom dating again, as he’d never met one of her boyfriends, Gerald is much better than the alternative.
In one of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s worst and strangest storylines, Vy married Lisa’s dad, Fred. Lisa and Will were set to get married in Fresh Prince season 5, but the couple decided they weren’t ready and called it off. The wedding didn’t go to waste, as Vy married Fred instead. Bel-Air had already made moves to avoid this storyline, with Fred being married to Angela. The introduction of Gerald in the Bel-Air season 3 finale just further confirmed the storyline won’t be happening, providing more hope that Will and Lisa will stay together.
How The Bel-Air Season 3 Finale Set Up Bel-Air Season 4
Bel-Air Season 4 Will Deliver Even More Drama
With the Bel-Air season 3 cliffhanger endings, the series did a great job at setting up a potential season 4. Though the series hasn’t been renewed yet, it’s only a matter of time given Bel-Air's success on Peacock. There is much to be explored in Bel-Air season 4, even beyond the obvious storylines that were introduced at the end of season 3. The biggest question that needs answering is about Lamarcus’ fate.
If Lamarcus didn’t survive the Bel-Air season 3 finale, Hilary’s storyline will likely focus on her grief. Yet, it could also open up doors for Hilary and Jazz to rekindle their romance. If Lamarcus did survive, he likely has a long road to recovery ahead of him, in which Hilary will be faced with some difficult decisions as his new wife. The other big question is what will happen to Will now that he’s been kidnapped by Geoffrey’s old organization.
The kidnapping will probably bring Geoffrey back to Bel-Air, and hopefully, Will will come home safely and quickly. As aforementioned, Bel-Air season 4 will introduce a new member to the Banks family, with many potential storylines coming from the shift in family dynamics. Beyond this, there is plenty of drama to be had with Carlton and Will entering their senior years of high school and Ashley also starting high school in Bel-Air season 4.

A gritty and more grounded reimagining of the '90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Bel-Air stars Jabari Banks as Will Smith. After falling afoul of a drug lord and his gang in his native West Philadelphia, Will Smith moves to a gated community in Bel-Air with his wealthy Aunt Vivian (Cassandra Freeman) and Uncle Phil (Adrian Holmes). Not only must Will adjust to his new environment, but he's also forced to deal with his past in order to embrace his future.
