Beavis and Butt-Head creator Mike Judge is developing a new series for Peacock titled In the Know. Judge began his entertainment career making animated shorts before expanding into television with Beavis and Butt-Head on MTV and King of the Hill on Fox. He's also developed live-action projects such as the movie Idiocracy and the HBO series Silicon Valley.
NBCUniversal's streaming service Peacock announced (via Animation Magazine) that it is developing its first adult animated series, with Judge, comedian Zach Woods, and writer Brandon Gardner behind the project. The series is titled In the Know and centers on a character named Lauren Caspian, described as "NPR's third most popular host." It will follow his day-to-day activities preparing his talk show with real-world human guests, as Caspian and his staff are all stop-motion puppets.
The series will help expand on Peacock's slate of original scripted content and its efforts in trying to diversify its viewership. While the streaming service has developed unique shows such as Bel-Air and Vampire Academy, Peacock is still seen as more of a lower-tier entertainment hub compared to others such as Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max. In the Know's more offbeat premise, combined with the comedic skills of Judge, Woods, and Gardner gives Peacock the potential to bring in more viewers and, if the show is successful, potentially the motivation the streamer needs to take on more daring projects.
