Paper Mario: The Origami King is a game that features a paper world that Mario and his pals must survive in. The game features a world inhabited by enemies that are made of arts and crafts, including fun yet challenging boss fights.
Each boss fight is challenging in its own unique way thanks to the game's creative endeavors. One of these bosses is Colored Pencils. These pencils will not be easy to beat unless players listen to the right advice. Here is a guide to defeating The Colored Pencils boss battle in Paper Mario: The Origami King.
How The Colored Pencils Boss Battle Works
Paper Mario: The Origami King's Colored Pencils fight acts like a mini-game inside of the main story campaign. For this battle, the Pencils, in their pencil case, will be surrounded by four sequential rings that Mario can rotate clockwise or counterclockwise.
The goal is to use the circles to both avoid the Pencils' attacks and to damage the Pencils from behind. Mario and the Pencils will each take a turn to plan out their attack strategies. Each turn must be executed properly if players wish to defeat The Colored Pencils.
The First Turn Against The Colored Pencils
During each of Mario's turns, players will able to rotate the rings. However, players will only be able to rotate the rings three times per turn.
Players need to pay attention to what's on each ring in order to find the best strategies to attack the Colored Pencils from behind. The Pencils will highlight their targets but thanks to the circle players can avoid the pencil's attacks.
Players need to rotate the circles so that the arrows will let Mario run around the circle and to the back of the Pencils' case. When players get behind the Pencils, they can launch their attack and the Pencils' case will close shut. When it's the Pencils' turn, they are damaged by their own attack.
The Second Turn Against The Colored Pencils
After the Pencils attack themselves, Mario's next turn has the Pencils open their case up with no pencils on the inside. Thanks to this, players can damage the Pencils upfront rather than behind.
Like before, players will need to use the circles to help get to the pencil case. Things will be easier this time because the pencils will not be able to launch targeted attacks.
Once players are in the front or the side of the Pencils, they can launch their strike. Players should be warned though, the Pencils will counterattack with their Snap Shut. So players need to acquire a red heart to restore some health during the next turn.
The Third & Fourth Turns Against The Colored Pencils
The next two turns will be exactly like the previous moves. After attacking the inside of the Pencils' case, they will refill their colored pencil torpedoes to launch their next attack. Like the first turn, the Colored Pencils will mark the areas they will attack while players use the circles to get behind the pencil case.
After attacking from behind, the Pencils' case will close again and they will damage themselves like before. Their case will once again up empty and players can use the circles to launch a frontal assault.
The Fifth (And Hopefully Final) Turn Against The Colored Pencils
When the fifth turn comes around, the Colored Pencils will enter a new attack phase called Rainbow Roll. When this happens, the pencils can no longer be weakened by attacks from behind. However, they will be more susceptible to attacks on the front.
There are two methods of ending the Colored Pencils fight. The first idea is to use the circles to get close to Colored Pencils and attack them, which takes a few turns. However, the Pencils will immediately follow-up with their Rainbow Roll attack, which causes heavy HP loss.
The second idea, and probably the best one, is to utilize the 1,000-Fold Arms Magic Circle. It is a circle with a hand inside. If players manage to get it while they are facing the Colored Pencils, they can use the 1,000-Fold Arms to immediately end the fight.
