Batman’s Batsignal has just debuted a new symbol across the skies of Gotham City, and if there are two things fans can take away from this design change, it’s that it needs to make its debut on a suit, and that even the Dark Knight faces problems he can’t solve on his own.

The ever-talented Dan Mora has once again spoiled fans with his stunning art for the main cover of Batman/Superman: World's Finest #40, written by Mark Waid with art by Adrián Gutiérrez. While the issue won’t be released until June 18, 2025, the cover is already generating excitement with its action-packed scene featuring Superman and a towering Bat-Mech—something straight out of Pacific Rim—battling a Kaiju-esque monster.

And while Batman’s mech suit is impressive on its own, the real standout detail is in the background: the Batsignal lighting up Gotham’s skies with a new emblem that fuses Superman and Batman’s logos into one undeniably badass symbol.

...there’s also a deeper meaning behind the SuperBat logo being displayed via the Batsignal.

Positioned behind the battling Bat-Mech and Kaiju, the Batsignal lights up the night sky—but instead of the Dark Knight’s usual bat emblem, the symbol twists the bat wings into the shape of an "S." This is a stroke of genius on Mora’s part—so cool, in fact, that DC desperately needs to make this logo canon. Given that this is just cover art, the design technically isn’t part of continuity—at least, not yet. Seeing this altered Batsignal project the SuperBat symbol within the actual story would be nothing short of epic.

When it comes to canonizing this symbol, DC could take things even further by incorporating it into a suit. Some may wonder where such a fusion would fit, given that Batman and Superman are two distinct heroes. However, Mora and Waid have already introduced a SuperBat character in past issues—a fusion of both heroes—making this the perfect place to showcase the emblem. Alternatively, if Waid wanted to have a little fun, he could elevate the duo’s friendship by giving them matching suits that pay tribute to both of their legacies.

While the symbol’s visuals are striking on their own, there’s also a deeper meaning behind the SuperBat logo being displayed via the Batsignal. Its presence suggests that even Gotham recognizes Batman alone isn’t enough to face a city-destroying monster. The incorporation of Superman’s emblem makes it clear that they’re calling on his help as well—acknowledging that this is a threat even too big for the Dark Knight to handle alone, no matter how much he might refuse to it it. It’s great to see Superman and Batman’s legacies intertwined in this way, with the symbol perfectly capturing the essence of the series—Clark and Bruce working together as a united force.
