The Riddler plays a central role in each Batman: Arkham game, but one entry in the series features the best version of the villain's confounding collection quest. The Batman: Arkham version of The Riddler is known for leaving green question mark trophies across the game world, in addition to other puzzles like environmental riddles to scan and various objects to destroy, for players to collect. The insufferable rogue features prominently in each game, from Batman: Arkham Asylum to Arkham Knight, but one title has the best Riddler missions of them all.

Wally Wingert's iconic portrayal of The Riddler makes the egomaniac one of the best Batman: Arkham villains, having made his first appearance in the opening hours of Arkham Asylum. While he never appears physically, Riddler leaves trophies to collect and riddles to solve across Arkham Island and taunts the Dark Knight by hacking into his radio. The fiend returns in Arkham City, taking a more physically proactive role by kidnapping medical staff and forcing Batman to save them from various deathtraps. The prequel story Arkham Origins hints at the Riddler's origins, portraying him as a hacktivist named Enigma, while Arkham Knight ups the ante again by making Catwoman the villain's newest hostage.

Batman: Arkham Knight Delivers The Best Riddler

The Riddler's design in Arkham Knight reflects his labors in creating the Riddler Trophy Challenges.

Each entry in the superhero saga managed to slowly improve Batman: Arkham's Riddler, with Arkham Knight boasting the best Riddler missions in the entire series. While Arkham City features a staggering 282 Riddler trophies for players to collect, Arkham Knight whittles this down to 243 trophies despite featuring a substantially larger Gotham City. Each Riddler puzzle is therefore more in-depth, requiring players to make clever use of Batman's arsenal and the Batmobile to solve each challenge. Riddler's side mission in Batman: Arkham Knight also delivers a very wide variety of content including Batmobile races, complex puzzle rooms and unique challenges requiring cooperation between Batman and Catwoman.

Batman Arkham Most Disappointing Villain Arkham City Riddler

Completing Riddler's mission in Arkham Knight may be tedious to some players, with some considering him the Batman: Arkham series' most disappointing villain, but Rocksteady's third Batman: Arkham adventure has the best version of the rogue's challenges. Arkham Asylum's Riddler mission is narratively basic, with players collecting Nigma's trophies before listening to police arrest him. Arkham City increases the side mission's depth by adding puzzle rooms and a physical confrontation with Riddler, but it features far too many trophies. Batman: Arkham Knight finally perfected the Riddler mission formula, with the massive Most Wanted mission involving various different types of puzzles and a well-earned boss fight against a giant Riddler robot.

Riddler, and the quest to collect hundreds of the villain's green question mark-shaped trophies scattered across every open-world Gotham City, is a staple of the Batman: Arkham franchise. Each entry in the series gives the insufferable antagonist bigger goals and more elaborate plans, but Arkham Knight delivers the best version of the Riddler's side mission. Rocksteady's third and final Arkham game presents various different Riddler puzzles to solve, and ends the villain's quest with an epic robot boss fight. Collecting 243 Riddler trophies may still be tedious, but Batman: Arkham Knight makes every trophy and puzzle more meaningful than its predecessors did.
