Keoghan Played Dominic Kearney Again For A Super Bowl LIX Squarespace Commercial

Two full years after The Banshees of Inisherin came out in October 2022, Barry Keoghan returned to the role of Dominic Kearney for a Super Bowl ad. Square Space, a website-building company, enlisted Keoghan to illustrate how their product is applicable to a wide variety of businesses. Keoghan, as Kearney, rode a donkey like the one from The Banshees of Inisherin through a small town in the Irish countryside while distributing laptops loaded with pre-built websites. Keoghan's character even recited a poem about Square Space while tossing the laptops through windows, into a blacksmith's fire, and into open fields.

The Banshees Of Inisherin Wasn't A Very Big Movie, & Keoghan Also Received Acclaim For Saltburn Recently

Seeing Barry Keoghan play his character from The Banshees of Inisherin again came as quite a surprise, and there's a few reasons it was so shocking. The main reason Keoghan's Super Bowl ad was so unexpected was because The Banshees of Inisherin is no longer his most notable project. Just last year, Keoghan starred in Saltburn, which earned him a BAFTA nomination for Best Leading Actor. It seems like it would have been more topical and relevant for Square Space to center its Super Bowl ad around Keoghan's Saltburn character rather than his Banshees of Inisherin role.

Another reason Keoghan's Super Bowl ad was so surprising is that The Banshees of Inisherin is almost three years old, and isn't exactly topical anymore. Additionally, despite its impressive list of nominations, The Banshees of Inisherin wasn't a smash-hit. It made a respectable $50 million at the worldwide box office (via Box Office Mojo), but it doesn't compare to other Super Bowl movies like Jurassic World Rebirth, the newest entry in a multi-billion dollar franchise. The Banshees of Inisherin also received much of its acclaim once it was put onto streaming services, so it's not the typical blockbuster film that is usually picked for Super Bowl ads.
