Ballerina trailers, Reeves will reprise his role as Wick for the film, with the character sent to stop Eve after she starts causing problems.

The official Lionsgate YouTube now shares a video showing a fight rehearsal between de Armas and Reeves, teasing that the showdown between Eve and Wick in Ballerina will be about more than just gun prowess. The video features de Armas on the offensive, attempting to land blows against Reeves, who uses his superior strength and size to his advantage. The behind-the-scenes clip also provides a peek into how this fight scene was modulated and iterated upon, with de Armas adjusting her form for the second go-round. Check out the video below:

What This Means For Ballerina

How Much Is Keanu Reeves In The Movie?

It has long been known that Reeves would appear in the cast of Ballerina, but his role was initially painted as more of a cameo. From the full-length trailer and the video above, however, Wick's role in the spinoff could end up being more than this. Ballerina is still very much Eve's story, but Wick shows up in several different environments and situations in the materials released thus far, including the snowy rubble of a building, a warmly-lit interior, and atop a tower with a rifle.

John Wick Full Timeline Explained: When Each Movie & Spinoff Takes Place

The John Wick films and spinoffs have been released over a span of ten years. The In-universe storyline has a surprisingly shorter timeline.

Ballerina takes place between the events of the third and fourth John Wick movies, meaning Wick himself is obviously going to make it through the film unscathed. Eve doesn't have this same plot armor, but it's highly unlikely Wick will kill her in the movie. The most likely outcome is that Eve and Wick, after some initial conflict, end up making some sort of truce, with Eve left to potentially appear again in the franchise down the road. With John Wick 5 now in development, she could end up returning to the franchise down the road.

Our Take On The Ballerina Fight Training Video

De Armas Could Help Carry The Movie To Success

A closeup of Ana de Armas in the Ballerina flamethrower scene

The latest Ballerina behind-the-scenes video reaffirms that de Armas has what it takes to be an action star. The actor first proved this in No Time To Die (2021), making a brief but memorable appearance as bubbling spy Paloma opposite Daniel Craig's James Bond. With de Armas now set to go head-to-head with Reeves, in addition to fending off waves of other enemies, Ballerina could end up pushing her to the next level as an action star.

As the first John Wick movie not to be directed by Chad Stahelski, there's a lot riding on Ballerina in of the viability of the larger franchise's universe. From what's been released thus far, the spinoff looks to feature an exciting mix of the old and the new, and it could end up being a worthy addition to the saga. While many questions remain about Ballerina, audiences can clearly expect a showstopping Eve and Wick fight sequence.
