A Dungeons & Dragons legend is set to return to D&D’s Space Hamsters Have A Baldur’s Gate Reference
Who Is Minsc In DnD & Why Is He Important To Baldur's Gate?
The Baldur's Gate 3 teaser shows a statue covered in leaves and vines while in the background, out of shot, there are sounds of fighting and chaos. Someone in front of the statue meets a grizzly end as blood sprays across the stone, and the camera focuses on the tiny hamster cupped in the statue's hands. Then a bolt of magic strikes the statue, and its eyes begin to glow.
Fans of The Legends of Baldur’s Gate comics or those who have played the DnD 5e campaign Descent Into Avernus will have some idea of what just happened. It is shown in the comics that Minsc was awakened when a bolt of wild magic from a mage of Baldur's Gate, Delina, struck his statue.
Firstly, it's important to understand who Minsc is and what his role was in the DnD multiverse. Minsc and his furry companion, the miniature giant space hamster Boo, first appeared in the first Baldur’s Gate game. There they could be recruited by the player as a companion where they would aid in the defeat of Sarevok.
Since that introduction, Minsc has appeared in the Baldur's Gate sequel as well as the expansions. Minsc is one of the most popular characters to come out of the Baldur's Gate series, as his presence has been requested since Baldur's Gate 3 went into early access. Minsc is an odd character, often depicted as having a rather simplistic view of good and evil, but it was his partnership with Boo that really endeared fans to him. After his heroic adventures earned him fame, Minsc and Boo were voluntarily petrified and placed in Baldur's Gate. The idea was that they would be woken when the city needed their aid. The statue became known as the Beloved Ranger, although none in the city knew its true nature.
Minsc's appearance and how he is revived hint at the inclusion of elements from the Legends of Baldur's Gate comics. Fans will be wondering if Delina, Krydle, or Shandie will also be ing their kind-hearted, although simple friend in Baldur’s Gate 3. Whatever the case may be, fans of Baldur's Gate 3 will be delighted to see Minsc and Boo return as possible companions in their fight against the mind flayer invasion.
