For a small entry fee, you can try to corral an owlbear cub through a small obstacle course. If you manage to weave the animal through some barrels and fences, you can earn a reward.

You can reach the Golin Camp by progressing through Act 1 until you can explore west of the Blighted Village. If you manage to talk your way through, you can be welcomed into the camp, where you can look around to find the game. Do not try to kill all the goblins yet, as you will need at least one of them alive to earn rewards from chicken chasing.

If you manage to become friendly with the goblins, you may have an opportunity to poison the camp in Baldur's Gate 3, but save this until after you've won the Chicken Chase game.

How To Start The Chicken Chase Game

Talk To Krolla And Pay The Fine

You first need to talk to the NPC Krolla, who is running the Chicken Chase game within the camp. This goblin offers you a chance to test your wits and courage, but you need to spend 30 Gold to participate in a round of Chicken Chase. Once you've done this, you can follow an owlbear cub near Krolla until it reaches a small maze of fences and barrels and waits for your party.

The game starts when you start pursuing the small owlbear, or the "Chicken" in this scenario. As your character gets close to the owlbear, it'll run away in the opposite direction as long as it can see you. At this early stage of the game, it is doubtful you'll have any spells in Baldur's Gate 3 that can help you avoid the perception of this creature during the game.

Ordinarily, a chicken is part of the Chicken Chase game. However, if you killed the Owlbear in the forest area before the camp, it will have been captured by the goblins and be the animal seen in place of the normal farm animal.

Before you start chasing the owlbear, you can make the game easier to win by rigging it. Move some of the barrels or debris lying around to narrow the owlbear's path and make it achieve the goal of the game faster. Your objective is to manipulate the owlbear's movement so it goes to the space between two lit torches up the stairs at the end of the obstacle course in between all the things on the ground.

You automatically lose if the owlbear leaves the game area, so make sure you don't accidentally drive it away from the obstacles. Doing this will cause you to pay the 30 Gold game entry fee again to Krolla, making you lose a decent chunk of money.

This is one of the best times to speak with animals in the game, as you can cast Speak with Animals on the owlbear to talk to it during Chicken Chase. With a high enough Persuasion check, you can convince the owlbear to simply run toward the posts on its own. Adding an advantage roll from a spell like Animal Friendship will help you with this strategy, making it more likely that you'll roll above the number you need.

If you moved some of the objects in the Chase game beforehand, you can also just set up a path to the torches for the owlbear. Krolla will try to rearrange anything you've moved, so you have to do this fast to make it work. Once the owlbear moves past the torches, Krolla will announce how you won the game and can return to her about a potential reward.

Unfortunately, Krolla will say that only goblins can get rewards for winning a game of Chicken Chase. You need to make a DC 15 Intimidation or Persuasion check against Krolla to convince her to give you any sort of reward for your efforts. Depending on your class build in Baldur's Gate 3 or which party are with you, this check may be incredibly easy or somewhat difficult to .

However, you want to use the Illithid Wisdom option in your dialogue with Krolla, as this makes the roll into a general Wisdom check with only a DC of 2. Only a natural 1 or a negative Wisdom score can stop you from ing, which is a very small chance (unless your luck is terrible). Convincing Krolla will help you gain all the Gold you spent and a little extra money for your victory.

One of the best rewards from Chicken Chase is how it deepens your relationship with the Owlbear cub. Those who speak to the creature can take steps to recruit it as a pet companion for their camp later in Act 1.
