The Dark Urge is one of seven origin characters in Baldur's Gate 3 who each come with their own backgrounds, personal questions and secrets that might not come to light during a custom character playthrough. Just like a custom character, the Dark Urge can be fully customized, but it is their backstory that really sets them apart. After waking up on the nautiloid with a shattered memory, it is up to the Dark Urge to piece together who they are and why they have such terrible murderous urges.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Pros & Cons Of Playing As The Dark Urge In BG3
The Dark Urge is an interesting option for custom character creation in Baldur's Gate 3, but it's not the right fit for every campaign.
10 Crush The Pixie
When traveling through the Shadow-Cursed Lands of BG3’s Act 2, the party will learn that the safest way to travel is with a Moon Lantern which uses mysterious magic to keep the shadows at bay. Opening up this lantern will reveal the source of its power: a pixie trapped within. Here the Dark Urge has a unique interaction which lets them crush the pixie in her first moments of freedom, swatting her out of the sky with just a forefinger and thumb.
9 Force Choke Goblins
When first arriving at Moonrise Towers and meeting the infamous General Ketheric Thorm, the party will be asked to weigh in on the fate of a group of goblins. Ultimately it will be left to the party to decide what happens to them, and again the Dark Urge has some options not available to other player BG3 characters. One of the most brutal is using the power of the tadpoles to choke them to death in a manner eerily reminiscent of Darth Vader.
8 Snap Minthara's Neck
Toward the end of Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, if the party has sided with the goblins and defeated the druids, there will be an opportunity to sleep with Minthara. It is at this point a romance with Minthara can begin, but for the Dark Urge there is a darker, more terrible choice. While sharing an embrace, the Dark Urge has the option to snap her neck, ending both the chance of romance and poor Minthara’s life.
7 Kick The Squirrel
In the Druid Grove, at the top of the elevator where the bear is sleeping is an adorable squirrel called Timber. When interacting with this tiny little critter without speak with animals active, the Dark Urge will not hesitate to kick Timber into the nearby tree, which will kill her. The action comes out of nowhere and is brutally shocking to even the Dark Urge afterward, making it a memorable BG3 moment.
6 Kill Paralyzed Tiefling
Also in the Druid Grove is an injured tiefling, called Pandirna, guarding a storehouse. The tiefling can be found close to where the Wyll is training the children and while the front door can be picked to allow entry, there is also a way in around the back via the prison area with the goblin. Inside the storehouse, Pandirna is paralyzed after drinking a potion and the Dark Urge has the option to attack the helpless woman, mercilessly killing her.

Every Baldur's Gate 3 Ending Explained (& What Choices Change It)
Baldur's Gate 3 can end in a number of different ways, but the overarching plot will generally remain similar between different endings.
5 Kill Isobel
Upstairs in the Last Light Inn is Isobel, a cleric of Selune, who is protecting everyone in the small area from the effects of the Shadow Curse. Speaking with Isobel will trigger a cutscene and attack from Marcus, a former Flaming Fist turned cultist of the Absolute. During the cutscene, it is possible to side with Marcus, who wants to take Isobel alive to Moonrise Towers. However, the Dark Urge has another unique option in BG3 and can betray them both by killing Isobel during the fight. This will not only feed the character's bloodlust, but will also doom everyone at the Last Light Inn as the moon shield falls.
4 Taking Gale's Hand
Perhaps one of the more shocking things the Dark Urge can do early on is kill one of the other Baldur's Gate 3 origin characters and potential companion. Shortly after waking up on the beach, the party will discover a malfunctioning waypoint sigil can be found close to the nautiloid wreckage. If touched, a hand will pop out and Gale will ask for assistance, but the Dark Urge has an option only available to them which offers one of the first clues to their murderous nature.
The choice presents itself as a daydream of hurting him; however, after fading to black it will be revealed that the character has indeed ripped Gale’s hand off. Even worse, the hand can, disgustingly, be kept as a trophy. This is one of the first opportunities to give in to the Urge during a Dark Urge playthrough, but it does come at the cost of a companion.
3 Wipe Minthara's Mind
Another Dark Urge decision that can cost a companion’s life comes in Act 2, again with Minthara as the victim. When arriving at Moonrise Towers, Minthara is being punished for her failings and the party have the choice to free her, thus letting her the team. However, the Dark Urge has the option to in with a ritual to erase her mind.

"An Iconic, Engaging Mess Of Brilliant Ideas": Baldur's Gate 3 Review
Baldur's Gate 3 is imposing in stature and its best moments are truly memorable, but some early issues with scale suggest an uneven experience.
The character can urge the two cultist on, demanding that Minthara’s mind be completely shattered. It is a difficult BG3 cutscene to watch as the proud and strong Minthara screams before become an emotionless puppet. This option is made all the crueler if the Dark Urge slept with Minthara and the anguish on her face is clear.
2 Encourage The Death Of A Child
One of the most well-known choices early in Baldur's Gate 3 involves the fate of the young tiefling girl, Arabella, who is being held by the druids after stealing their holy idol. Here the Dark Urge has a unique interaction where they can sense the snake's approval of Kagha's wishes and that if Arabella struggles it will attack. By pretending to be friendly, the Dark Urge can trick Arabella into running, resulting in the snake immediately biting and killing her.
1 Kill Alfira The Bard
Finally, there is poor Alfira the bard, who is perhaps the best known casualty of playing a Dark Urge character. Alfira can be met in the Druid Grove in Act 1 where the party can help her finish a song. If the druids and tieflings are sided with against the goblins, she will show up at the camp party and chatted to again.
However, when playing as the Dark Urge there is another terrible chance to meet Alfira again before Act 2, as she will show up in camp and asked to the party. Unfortunately for Alfira, this is a terrible mistake because as soon as the party enters a long rest the Dark Urge will murder her. There are a few ways to save Alfira, but if a loophole isn't used, then the death of this aspiring bard is one of the most disturbing and graphic Dark Urge scenes in Baldur's Gate 3.
