There are many companions in Baldur’s Gate 3. With a limited party size, only four can be brought along at a time. The others will wait at camp, allowing the progression of their storylines.

Each companion has an intended stat spread and build. However, they can be respec-ed with the aid of the undead Withers found in Baldur’s Gate 3’s first act.

While the character will always have their racial bonuses, they can fit into any party makeup.

More Baldur's Gate 3: 3 Tricks You Might Have Missed Early On

Halsin

Baldur's Gate 3 Halsin

Halsin is the leader of Druid Grove, during Act 1 he has gone missing during a tense stand-off between the Druid and Goblin factions. He can be rescued from the prisons at the Worg Pens. When first met, Halsin has Wild Shaped into a bear form used by the Druid class in Baldur’s Gate 3. He gives no sign that he is truly a Wood Elf until either his Goblin captors are killed, or players choose to slay him outright to gain favor with Minthara.

While Halsin requests that the Goblins be eliminated, simply agreeing to the idea will place the Druid into the player’s camp. The ideal “good” solution is to help the Grove outright. However, by taking a “neutral” approach and not completely defeating either side will still allow Halsin to at the start of Act 2.

Halsin is a Druid and has a stat spread that makes him more focused on casting magic. Players may want to consider Circle of Spore or Circle of the Land as his subclass. This will make him an outstanding party character rivaling the likes of Shadowheart.

4 Minthara

Baldur's Gate 3 Minthara Romance(1)

Minthara is one of the three leaders of the Goblin Camp during Act 1. This puts her in direct conflict with Grove and Halsin. Minthara has three possible fates depending on player's actions. Siding with Halsin’s idea of attacking the Goblins will result in players having to kill Minthara. But, not taking a side and using the Mountain to enter Act 2 will instead lead to Minthara’s disgrace in the eyes of the Absolute. She can then be rescued at Moonrise Tower without the loss of more vitreous heroes like Wyll and Halsin.\

But, in this neutral option, Minthara will not have much iration for the player’s character. To have a romance with Minthara in Baldur’s Gate 3, players will have to become truly evil. To achieve this outcome, players will have to betray the Grove and fully kill Kagha. If completed, Minthara will offer an intimate encounter as part of the Goblin’s celebration. She will also personally escort the party to Moonrise Tower before fully ing the team.

Minthara is a Drow Paladin of Vengeance, mainly working to strike down the enemies of the Absolute. She is powerful in battle, can cast some limited magic, and heal at close range with Lay on Hands. But she does lose some steam once running out of class feature charges.

3 Wyll

Wyll is known locally as “The Blade of the Frontiers”. He is dedicated to helping those in need and seeks to vanquish the wicked. He is first found at the Druid Grove, helping a band of Tiefling refugees flee from Goblin pursuers. He can be recruited after defeating the attackers.

Wyll doesn’t just stand out on his own but is also interlinked with other party and NPCs. When first encountered, Wyll is hunting down Karlach for being a demon that escaped Avenrnus. While at first, the two come to blows, players can use various forms of diplomacy to convince both to the team. Wyll has also made a Warlock pact with Mizora, a Cambion that temps mortals. By furthering Wyll’s storyline, players will also get to know Mizora very well – and possibly even have a chance at romance with the fiend.

Wyll is a Warlock of the Fiend. This allows him to recover hitpoints when landing the killing blow on enemies. As a Warlock, he also recovers spell slots during just a short rest. This allows him to fight longer before resorting to a full long rest in Baldur’s Gate 3.

2 Lae’zel

Baldur's Gate 3 Lae'zel fighter companion.

Lae’zel is the first party member introduced, even showing up in the opening cinematic of Baldur’s Gate 3. She will temporally in the tutorial while exploring the Nautiloid. After the Starjammer ship crashes, Lae’zel will be captured by a pair of Tieflings. Players will need to convince them to release her. If she stays too long inside the cage, Lae’zel will starve to death and become inaccessible for the rest of the campaign.

Lae’zel begins fully dedicated to the Githyanki way of life and that the Creche can do no wrong. This can easily put her at odds with Shadowheart, and if one is not careful they could lose one or both to petty disagreements. Lae’zel also hates the Illithid Mind Flayers, and will chastise players that succumb to using their powers in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Lae’zel is a Githyanki Fighter with a broad stat spread. She is both good in the front lines and can stay back and snipe with a longbow. she also has access to Githyanki Psonics, allowing her to cast Mage Hand , Jump , and Misty Step .

1 Karlach

Baldur's Gate 3 Karlach

Karlach has escaped the oppression of Avernus and made her way to Faerun. She can be found at the Risen Road, past a band of aggressive Gnolls. If Wyll is in the active party, the two will begin to argue that the other must be slain. Players can side with one of them, or convince both to work together. Later on, the two characters can assist each other and alter the outcome of their storylines. This tends to piss off or amuse Mizora, who punishes Wyll in various ways.

Despite hailing from the hellscape of Avernus, Karlach is extremely jovial and upbeat. She even has a fondness for pets like Scratch the Dog and the owlbear cub found in Baldur’s Gate 3. She doesn’t have a direct stake in the outcome of the Druid Grove, but does care about the Tielfling refugees there. She will become crestfallen if these innocent people die, either from the Goblin raid or if Kagha exterminates them herself.

Karlach is a Tiefling Barbarian that favors being in the frontline. Players can select their subclass once reaching the third level in Baldur’s Gate 3. Wildheart will give Karlach more survivability if picking Bear Heart and Unrelenting Ferocity. Berserker will instead up her damage output but will wind up taking overall more damage, comparatively.
