Back 4 Blood may not have been the Left 4 Dead replacement fans hoped it would but if a recent leak is accurate, it could be getting a second opportunity to make an impression. Released back in 2021, the four-play co-op shooter managed to gain a decent amount of praise from critics and fans for its intense undead shooting galleries that required teamwork and wits to survive. It's retained an active and dedicated fan base which is more than one can say for most live-service shooters these days.
Per MP1st, the CV of stuntman and actor Jesse Hutch, as seen on iStunt, mentions his participation in a project codenamed "Gobi 2" which may not seem like much until one re that Back 4 Blood's working title was "Gobi." If that wasn't enough to spark theories of a sequel's development, the fact that the domain for "back4blood2.com" was ed in 2023 suggests that Turtle Rock Studios is developing a follow-up. As with all leaks, it's recommended that fans take this information with a grain of salt until it's officially confirmed or debunked.
Back 4 Blood Deserves A Sequel
It's A Fantastic Shooter
Back 4 Blood managed to generate a great deal of hype ahead of its release and while some of the excitement left s disappointed, most players found something to enjoy. Its slick gunplay, excellent enemy designs provided a modernized take on the Left 4 Dead formula that also did enough to stand on its own. Back 4 Blood may be a game that's difficult to enjoy for solo players but when playing with friends, it's a great way to spend an evening.
One can only hope that if a sequel does come to fruition it fixes some of the more substantial problems that plagued the original. While novel in their concept, the skill cards' execution left something to be desired as they never have as big of an impact as one would like. The writing was also painful at times but both of these issues can be resolved in a sequel.

Back 4 Blood 2 Could Be Great
Even If Its Competition Has Only Grown Stiffer
The cooperative shooter market has become somewhat oversaturated in recent years so whether a sequel to Back 4 Blood can make an impact on players remains to be seen. I would certainly return to the franchise if the supposed follow-up could deliver a similarly satisfying experience. It may not have taken the industry by storm like Left 4 Dead but there's something to Turtle Rock's vision that is undeniably compelling.
