Avowed Hits Impressive Steam Charts Milestone Before Official Release

Four days before its release, Obsidian Entertainment's action RPG customize their builds freely, set in a semi-open world with lots of off-the-beaten-path secrets to explore.

Players are already apparently impressed by Avowed, because, as spotted by Reddit Monster Hunter Wilds, which recently smashed records on the Steam charts for most concurrent players. At the time of writing, Avowed also sits at number one on Steam's US Top Sellers chart, having sured Marvel Rivals and Sid Meier's Civilization 7 for the crown.

Fans Are Clearly Excited For Avowed

This is an impressive milestone for any game, but doubly so for Avowed, which isn't even out yet. Avowed won't technically be released until February 18, but fans are already apparently buying it in numbers. However, it does have an advanced access period beginning today, February 14, which is only available with the Edition. Some players are likely springing for the extra cost in order to play Avowed early.

Why Avowed Is Selling So Much

It's hard to pinpoint what's caused so many fans to buy it on Steam, especially considering that Avowed is a day-one launch on Game ' PC tier - many PC players will be receiving their copies of Avowed in just a few days, while many other Game subscribers chose to pay $24.99 for a Edition play the game a few days early. Avowed got good, if not stellar reviews, so it's likely not selling copies on the strength of its Metacritic score alone.

Avowed is the latest RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, and it’s an incredible showcase of the beloved studio’s writing and world-building.

Players may also be paying extra for the Edition for that four-day early access period, which could also be helping push it up the list. It's worth noting that Steam measures its Top Sellers by revenue, not by actual copies sold, and Avowed's Edition, at $89.99, is by far the most expensive item in that top five.

But if anything, it's probably Obsidian's pedigree that's driving Avowed sales. The developers of such storied RPGs as Fallout New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity have lots of fans who are clearly eager to play their next RPG. As one of them, no matter what the cause for this early surge in sales, I'm happy to see Avowed thriving.
