Warning: Spoilers for Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/X-Men #1 ahead!

The road to Judgment Day, the latest major crossover from Avengers could slaughter each other, in the pages of FCBD: Avengers/X-Men #1. Since betraying the X-Men, and being exiled from her former home of Krakoa, Moira is dead set on destroying all of mutantkind, and she simply does not care who is her in her cross-hairs.

In one of the most surprising twists in recent Marvel comics, the once human ally of the X-Men Moira MacTaggert was revealed to be a secret mutant in 2019's House of X, before being unveiled as a massive anti-mutant villain in 2022's Inferno, which saw Moira turned into a horrifying flesh-stealing cyborg. Now allying herself with the anti-mutant organization Orchis, and Thanos' evil order of Eternals, Moira is positioning herself to be one of the most horrific villains in the history of the X-Men and Avengers.

The story "Let's Talk About Krakoa" in the FCBD: Avengers/X-Men #1 special - written by current X-Men scribe Gerry Duggan with art by the talented Matteo Lolli - follows Moira as she begins to set in place a series of events that she will hope lead to humanity turning against the mutants, and Krakoa being destroyed. The event A.X.E: Judgment Day has been building for months, as it has been revealed slowly that the mutant race are actually a form of "excess deviation," similar to the Deviants metamorphosis, meaning that the Eternals are hard wired by their Celestial programming to slaughter them. As the  Hellfire Gala arrives the Judgment Day looms ominously over the festivities, where multiple anti-mutant adversaries are set to attack, leading to the Avengers needing to step in to protect the Krakoans. Moira is hoping however that the Avengers will not side with the mutants, and instead will find out about the mutants secrets of resurrections, and side with "humanity," hoping to wipe out the mutants before they can gain supremacy over the planet, which is Moira's greatest fear.

In an ominous day dream of hers Moira envisions the two groups at each other throats, and we see several fights where of the two groups brutally murder each other, in line with the X-Men's deaths would mean nothing, hinting that part of Moira's plan is revealing the Resurrection Protocols at the Hellfire Gala and potentially destroying the mutants ability to be revived.

Moira makes it clear that their immortality is what is so dangerous and threatening about mutant supremacy, and that she will use their ability to resurrect as a way to stoke the flames of the Avengers and Eternals fight with the X-Men, eventually leading to Judgment Day. As Moira notes in the comic, the Avengers and the X-Men have fought before, pretty often in fact, but neither has ever truly beaten the others... but FCBD: Avengers/X-Men #1 shows that Moira hopes her evil machinations she will be able to exploit the differences between the two groups of heroes and make them brutally kill each other.
