Another star from the Chris Evans ed Avengers: Doomsday in a mystery role. After a new update, it seems like the Avengers franchise star will return with the expected character, and a major ally of his will also come back.
According to Deadline, Hayley Atwell will return as Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday. The report also mentions that "Chris Evans [is] likely reprising his Steve Rogers role" in the Avengers movie. Interestingly, the report states that Atwell is returning as "Agent Carter," even though Peggy died in the MCU's main timeline in Captain America: Civil War. Evans' Steve Rogers and Atwell's Peggy Carter made up one of the MCU's most beloved couples. They got a happy ending in Avengers: Endgame, directed by Avengers: Doomsday's Anthony and Joe Russo, leaving a question mark regarding how they'll figure into Avengers: Doomsday's story.
Deadline also revealed that back when talks about Evans returning to the MCU started in 2021, a standalone movie focused on Steve Rogers and Atwell's Peggy Carter was in the works. After the story for the film could not be locked down, Marvel and the stars combined forces for Avengers: Doomsday.
What Hayley Atwell's Avengers: Doomsday Return Means
There Are A Couple Of Ways Her Return Could Play Out
The most likely outcome for Hayley Atwell's Avengers: Doomsday casting is that the actress will be playing a version of Captain Carter. The character originated in Marvel Studios' animated What If...? series, becoming the show's main hero, as she plays a key role in all three seasons of the series. Atwell has already played a live-action version of Captain Carter in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, though that member of the Illuminati was killed by the Scarlet Witch. With What If...? season 3 ending the series, Atwell's main version of Captain Carter could make the jump to live-action.

I’m Convinced Chris Evans’ Avengers: Doomsday Return Connects To A Groundbreaking MCU Theory
With Chris Evans now coming back to Marvel for Avengers: Doomsday, past reports about the MCU's future, including the X-Men, get a major boost.
There is also a chance that the report's mention of "Agent Carter" proves itself accurate to the letter. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Chris Evans' Steve Rogers decides to go to the past and leave a life by Peggy Carter's side. Avengers: Doomsday could return to that timeline, with the MCU's heroes recruiting Evans' Captain America and Agent Carter in their prime to help take down Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom. Another possibility is that Atwell plays a new multiverse version of Peggy in the next Avengers film.
Our Take On Hayley Atwell's Avengers: Doomsday Return
Steve Rogers Could Truly Be Coming Back
I am happy that Atwell is coming back to the MCU as Peggy Carter. No matter what version of the character, the star has always delivered an exciting turn in the franchise. Based on Evans' Avengers: Doomsday return, I would love to see him as Captain America and Atwell as Captain Carter fighting together to save the multiverse. It could lead to an emotional send-off to both characters that provides a fresh take on their dynamic, explaining why Marvel is bringing the actors back after Endgame for 2026's Avengers: Doomsday.
